Have you ever spent twenty minutes trying to open a package that says, “Easy Open”?

You pull the little tab. Nothing. You pull harder. Still nothing.

Eventually you're standing there with scissors, determination, and a personal grudge against whoever designed the package. At that point, “easy” has officially left the building. We have a funny habit of making simple things complicated. That's why we're ending this week's Coffee Break with another visit from Snooty, our fruity, floral, and nutty blend. And I saved a different coffee fact for Snooty's second appearance. Did you know the coffee we brew comes from the seed of a fruit? Coffee plants produce fruits commonly called coffee cherries. Inside those cherries are usually two seeds, which are what we eventually call coffee beans after they're processed and roasted. Occasionally, a coffee cherry develops differently and contains one rounded seed rather than the usual pair. That's commonly known as a peaberry. I love little facts like that because they remind us how much has happened before coffee ever reaches our kitchen. A farmer grew the plant. A flower bloomed. Fruit developed. The fruit ripened. The seeds were processed, dried, prepared and eventually roasted. And then one morning, we stumble into the kitchen half awake and say, “Where's my coffee?” We see the cup. We don't always see the journey. People are like that too. When you meet somebody today, you don't know everything it took for them to get where they are. So maybe give them a little grace. Offer a smile. Hold a door. Say something kind. And if they're wrestling with an “Easy Open” package, for goodness' sake, hand them the scissors. Snooty may sound fancy, but today's lesson is beautifully simple: appreciate the journey, enjoy the cup, and be kind to the people you meet along the way. Visit Cager's Coffee Hut at www.cagerscoffeehut.com and remember to keep brewing kindness one cup at a time.
