Pete and the Mad Doctor each made their premieres in Mickey Mouse cartoons BEFORE Queen Grimhilde in 1937. The more recognizable version of Pete first premiered in 1928 in the landmark cartoon Steamboat Willie, and then he just evolved from there. He’s been a sheriff, a criminal, a landlord, a jerky neighbor, a Captain of the Royal Musketeers, and many other antagonistic roles to Mr. Mouse and others over the years! The Mad Doctor, in the meantime, made his first appearance in the 1933 cartoon The Mad Doctor as an evil scientist who kidnapped Pluto with the intent of performing an obscene surgical procedure on him to turn him into some sort of dog-chicken chimera. You gotta admit, Disney went hard with that cartoon. Anyway, their premiere dates lead me to the conclusion that these two are really the FIRST Disney villains, and we’ll be using these and other appearances of the characters to inform our builds.
