  • Virginia Weather March 5 Morning - 43° Above Normal
    Mar 5 2026
Good morning. Virginia. I'm Aaron Jolly. Forty-nine degrees right now. Eighty degrees by this afternoon. That's not a typo. In the next 24 hours. Before we get to the heat, quick heads up for anyone driving north of Richmond this morning. Dense fog has visibility down to a quarter mile in spots. Low beams only. It clears by 9 A.M. Once that fog burns off, the warmup kicks in fast. Western Virginia leads the charge, topping out at 80 degrees under mostly sunny skies. Central Virginia sits right behind at 79. Down in Hampton Roads, the coast keeps things a touch cooler — 72 with a southwest breeze at 6 to 12 miles an hour. Here's the kicker. Normal highs for early March? Upper 50s. We're running 43 degrees above that. The spring equinox is still two weeks out, but today feels like mid-May showed up early. Tonight stays mild. Lows only drop to the mid-50s under partly cloudy skies. Step outside after dark and you'll catch the full moon lighting everything up. Friday keeps the warmth rolling. Western Virginia could hit 82. A slight chance of showers pops up in the afternoon, but most of us stay dry. For the weekend. Rain chances increase Saturday night into Sunday, with a few thunderstorms possible Sunday afternoon. Temperatures stay well above normal through early next week. Today's the day to crack a window or take that long lunch outside. We'll pay for it with some rain this weekend, but for now? For the extended outlook, check the latest forecast as confidence improves. That's your forecast — we'll be back tomorrow.

  • Virginia Weather March 4 Evening - 49° Above Normal
    Mar 5 2026
Good evening. Virginia. I'm Aaron Jolly. Virginia is getting an early taste of spring today. We're sitting at 63 degrees right now under clear skies — nearly 49 degrees above normal for early March. The overnight low was 49 degrees, so we've already warmed up nicely. In the next 24 hours. Central Virginia climbs to 79 degrees tomorrow under mostly sunny skies. Western Virginia hits 80 degrees. Down in Hampton Roads, the coast stays cooler with a high near 70 degrees thanks to onshore flow off the Atlantic. Patchy fog may linger there until about 8 A.M. Before burning off. Tonight, clouds increase across the state. Lows dip only into the upper 40s and low 50s — remarkably mild for early March. If you're out tonight, look up. We've got a full moon. Friday keeps the warmth going. Central Virginia reaches 81 degrees. Western Virginia hits 82. A slight chance of showers develops after lunchtime, but most of the day stays dry. Looking ahead through the weekend, this unseasonable warmth continues. Highs hold in the upper 70s to low 80s Saturday. Rain chances increase Saturday night into Sunday as a front approaches. We could see a few thunderstorms Sunday afternoon. Highs Sunday cool slightly into the low to mid 70s. By early next week, we stay warm but unsettled with scattered shower chances Monday and Tuesday. Another round of storms may arrive by Wednesday. The spring equinox is just two weeks away. Sunrise today is at 6:38 A.M. With sunset at 6:07 P.M. We're gaining over two minutes of daylight each day now. For the extended outlook, check the latest forecast as confidence improves. That's your forecast — we'll be back tomorrow.

  • Virginia Weather March 4 Midday - 49° Above Normal
    Mar 4 2026
Good afternoon. Virginia. I'm Aaron Jolly. Seventy-two degrees right now. In early March. That's not a typo. We're running a solid 49 degrees to 49 degrees above normal. And honestly, it feels more like late April out there than the tail end of winter. In the next 24 hours. Step outside and that mild air just wraps around you. Central Virginia is sitting pretty at 70 degrees this afternoon under partly sunny skies. You might see a quick shower after 4 P.M., but most of us stay dry. Tonight, clouds build in with a low near 51. Down in Hampton Roads, the ocean is doing its job, keeping you a bit cooler at 66 degrees. You'll see mostly sunny skies today, then clouds roll in tonight with a low around 49. Out west in the mountains, you're hitting 69 degrees this afternoon under partly sunny skies. Tonight turns mostly cloudy with a low near 51. Tomorrow, we crank the heat up even more. Central and Western Virginia push toward 80 degrees. Hampton Roads reaches 70, though watch for some patchy fog early. This incredible warmth holds through Saturday. But here's the twist. A cold front crashes the party this weekend. Rain chances climb Saturday night. And Sunday brings showers along with a few rumbles of thunder possible. Highs tumble back into the mid-70s in Central. And the mid-60s at the coast. By the way, tonight is the full moon. With some breaks in the clouds, it should be a lovely sight. We're also gaining over two minutes of daylight every single day now. Sunrise was at 6:38 this morning. And we've a sunset at 6:07 this evening. Spring equinox sits just two weeks away. Today's the day to crack a window and let that amazing air in. For the extended outlook, check the latest forecast as confidence improves. That's your forecast — we'll be back tomorrow.
