Antioch could send Paul and Barnabas. It could not guarantee their trustworthiness.

In this second episode on Paul, we follow what happened when his contested testimony moved beyond the communities that had come to know him. A sending community could provide provenance, a bounded commission, and identifiable relationships of responsibility. It could not confer portable legitimacy or compel unfamiliar hearers to believe.

Paul’s proclamation entered cities already ordered by households, synagogues, workshops, patronage networks, inherited stories, and competing obligations. Different hearers received different evidence, interpreted the message through different conceptual worlds, and faced different costs if they accepted it.

Through episodes involving Lydia, Jason, Timothy, Silas, Prisca, Aquila, and Apollos, we consider how testimony became durable. Hearers became participants by offering hospitality, accepting risk, correcting misunderstanding, and sustaining communities after the original messenger had departed. Some participants then accepted the further responsibility of becoming carriers.

The episode also introduces From Opponent to Witness, an interactive relational model that makes these distinctions visible. The model separates testimony from belief, vouching from certainty, commissioning from unlimited authority, and recognition from portable legitimacy.
