  • 65. Hell on Earth, Mets in Los Angeles
    Apr 16 2026

Many horrible things have happened. It's 90 degrees in April. We're without David. We're sweating. We're upset because the Mets won't stop losing. You would think at some point they would win because of a fluke, but they haven't.

This week on Hits Different, Ellen and Kait mostly discuss their physical and emotional discomfort. Brett Baty is the only qualified hitter left in MLB who has yet to record a walk, and we were there to see him almost record one but then have it taken back by ABS. (I, Kait, am now anti-ABS.) Three Mets struck out on 10 pitches in the 9th inning of a one-run game even though only 2 of those pitches were in the strike zone. We received a surprisingly moving and delightful voice note from an avowed Atlanta Braves fan? Nothing's right. Everything's wrong. Jared Young is having knee surgery!

We'll probably go to every single game when the Mets get back to New York. We should be with them in their darkest hour.

  • 64. What's Your Favorite Baseball Brawl?
    Apr 10 2026

Obviously when we recorded this episode and we said "the Mets have yet to see a game slip away because of the bullpen" the Mets had yet to see a game slip away because of the bullpen. They did so about 12 hours later. C'est la vie!

This week on Hits Diff, Dave and Kait are missing Ellen, who is in Guatemala, and Juan Soto, who is in an ice bath probably. We miss them equally! Kait tried to fill in for Ellen's egg roll review segment but it didn't hit the same. It hit different (derogatory). Come back, Ellen!! And come back, Juan!! And come back, Double Play David Peterson?? Will you?? Though the Mets are sweet and kind and gentle, a lot of other baseball players were fighting or talking about fighting this week, so we spent some time thinking about our favorite baseball brawls and why baseball brawls are so great.

Please send us your questions and links to YOUR favorite baseball brawls at hitsdiffpodcast@gmaill.com—send as a voice note, if you will, so we can play them on the show! Also, please send us your recommendations for Mets bars. Dave and Kait were randomly attacked by "Trivia Night" while trying to watch the boys at a local pub last night and we can't have that happen again.

  • 63. Meet the New Mets
    Apr 3 2026

One day into the 2026 season the new-look lineup for the New York Mets was knocking Paul Skenes out in the first inning, silencing the haters, and securing David Stearns somewhere between 4 and 6 meaty biographies one day. One week into the 2026 season and the New York Mets have sole possession of last place in the NL East.

In the season-three regular-season premiere of Hits Different, Ellen, David, and Kait discuss the glories of opening day and the jumpy, meth-y freak-outs of nearly every day since. If you missed "the discourse" on X Dot Com, don't worry, we're summarizing. Since I said it in the episode I will not use the opportunity here to get into it even more about how the only reason the Mets won games in April of last year was thanks to one Pete Alonso—and where is he now? Like I said, I won't.

We're feeling nuts but overall so happy to be back. What is there to do when there's no baseball to watch? We already forgot. We're debuting a new segment called Ellen's Egg Roll Review, in which she tries all the ludicrous themed egg rolls they are serving at Citi Field this year, starting with the Pittsburgh-inspired pierogi egg roll. Yum!

Please send us questions at hitsdiffpodcast@gmail.com. We would really love it if you sent them as a voice note / audio recording of some sort so that we can hear your voices and play them on the show. That would rule!

Thank you for being with us. Stay strong... You gotta believe... Let's go Mets!
