  • Bonus Episode: Going To The Movies With Evil Scarecrow - Last Action Hero
    Apr 7 2026

It's a special episode of the Didn't Go Platinum podcast, as Tim is joined by Dr Hell and Count Gravedigga of Evil Scarecrow for a trip to the cinema! We're revisiting the soundtrack to Last Action Hero, the cult classic Arnold Schwarzenegger movie from 1993.

With a host of artists on the track list, including AC/DC, Cypress Hill, Queensryche, Alice In Chains, and Anthrax (kinda), this soundtrack is a snapshot of nineties alt-music. Hard rock, rap, and thrash metal sit side-by-side as Arnie delivers one-liners, bad guys get gunned down, and Charles Dance portrays a character so evil, he'd make Tywin Lannister wince.

And along the way, we discover the origin of the word 'wanker.'

There are a few tangents in this episode.

You can find Evil Scarecrow online at Facebook and Instagram.

You can also follow Didn't Go Platinum on Threads and Instagram at @dngplatinum, or email us at dngplatinum@gmail.com

Big thank you to Jimi from Bangers and Mosh for making the thumbnail for this episode at short notice.

    Listen to metal.

  • S3, E7: Declination of Independence by Cold As Life
    Mar 24 2026

Didn't Go Platinum visits the worst neighbourhoods in Detroit, as we explore Cold As Life's excellent second album, a forgotten gem of nineties hardcore. Cold As Life might be the most dangerous band to ever emerge from the American underground, whose songs of brutal slice violence and urban paranoia mask a tragic, heartbreaking career.

Regular host Tim Bolitho-Jones is joined by Loudstakk mainman Ron D. Rock, and the two discuss their favourite tracks, the band's history, and the mythology of the nineties hardcore scene. And given that this is a Detroit-heavy episode, Chicago gets a minor kicking.

You can explore Loudstakk and their premium MIDI grooves for metalheads by visiting their website, or checking out their Instagram page.

  • S3, E6: Love And Other Disasters by Sonic Syndicate
    Mar 3 2026

Didn't Go Platinum asks the big question: can being very well-dressed and incredibly good-looking be a drawback?

Regular host Tim Bolitho-Jones is joined by Kris Kielich of the Psychic Warfare podcast to discuss Love And Other Disasters, the third full-length from Swedish metallers Sonic Syndicate. They're a band that Tim once dismissed as "Hot Topic Mall Goth metal," but it turns out that they're much better than that.

Join us as we revisit an irresistibly catchy album that may infuriate heavy metal traditionalists, but is actually really good. And let's find out why Sonic Syndicate didn't become megastars.

You can find Kris and the Psychic Warfare podcast on Instagram and Spotify, and as part of the wider Noizze Podcast Network.

You can find Didn't Go Platinum on Threads and Instagram at @dngplatinum, email us at dngplatinum@gmail.com, or follow Tim's newly created Substack.

And you can listen to Love And Other Disasters on Spotify.

  • S3, E5: 11 Dreams by Mercenary
    Feb 17 2026

Are Mercenary the unsung heroes of melodic death metal? We tackle this question with an in-depth look at the band's 2004 album 11 Dreams on the latest episode of Didn't Go Platinum.

Regular host Tim Bolitho-Jones is joined by Brother Dave of the Menn, Metal Mayhem podcast to discuss the Danish underdogs. 11 Dreams is a very strong album, and a viable alternative to some of the more popular acts of the early 2000's, but is it too long?

You can follow Didn't Go Platinum on Threads and Instagram at @dngplatinum or email dngplatinum@gmail.com

You can find Brother Dave, the rest of the Brothers Menn, and the Menn, Metal Mayhem podcast here.

And of course, you can listen to 11 Dreams on Spotify here.

    Feb 10 2026

We're off to the trenches with the pals battalions as Didn't Go Platinum revisits an overlooked classic: it's Those Once Loyal by Bolt Thrower.

This WW1-themed death metal album was deemed so good, that the band decided to stop recording once it was released. And yet, it's got a reputation as one of those albums that loads of people have heard of, but never listened to.

Regular host Tim Bolitho-Jones is joined by enthusiastic metal journalist and fellow Distorted Sound writer Phil Cooper, the two discussing everything from their favourite songs to Blackadder Goes Fourth.

You can follow Didn't Go Platinum on Instagram and Threads at @dngplatinum, or email dngplatinum@gmail.com

  • S3, E3: The Hunter by Mastodon
    Jan 27 2026

Put on your finest flannel shirt and lather your beard in fresh oil, Didn't Go Platinum returns to discuss Mastodon's divisive fifth album, The Hunter.

This record was a critical smash for the band, but is a long way from being a fan favourite and seems to have fallen out of the conversation. Host Tim Bolitho-Jones is joined by Bruce from the Noizze Podcast Network for a deep dive into a fantastic, if misunderstood album. And we find out what a burl is.

  • S3, E2: When Worlds Collide by Maroon
    Jan 20 2026

Didn't Go Platinum travels to Germany, circa 2006, to look at what may be the best metalcore album that most of you have never heard of: it's When Worlds Collide by Maroon.

Joining regular host Tim Bolitho-Jones is the one and only Dazz Freeman of the Bangers And Mosh podcast. The lads talk everything from veganism to mosh calls and that absolutely killer bit where Maroon go full power metal for around thirty seconds.

They also mercilessly rip the piss out of Brokencyde.

You can follow Didn't Go Platinum on Instagram and Threads at @dngplatinum or email us at dngplatinum@gmail.com

You can find Dazz on Instagram.

And you can check out When Worlds Collide itself on Spotify.

No we don't mean Maroon 5, this is definitely not about Maroon 5.
