Production: 1950Films

Distribution: Limitless Broadcasting Network

In this episode of the Robby & Shana Reviews Podcast Series, Robby and Shana take a deep dive into Ryan Murphy’s hit Netflix mystery-horror series, The Watcher. Created by Ryan Murphy and Ian Brennan, the series plunges viewers into a suburban nightmare where dream homes turn into psychological traps.

• The Dream: Married couple Dean and Nora Brannock sink their life savings into purchasing their dream suburban home at 657 Boulevard in Westfield, New Jersey.
• The Conflict: Almost immediately after moving in, the family begins receiving ominous, threatening letters signed by an anonymous stalker who calls themselves "The Watcher," claiming that the house has been the obsession of their family for decades.
• The Chaos: Alongside the terrifying correspondence, the family is plagued by deeply strange, intrusive neighbors and escalating psychological terror that turns their lives upside down.
• Release & Structure: Season 1 consists of 7 gripping episodes released on October 13, 2022, and the series was later renewed for a second season.

• Naomi Watts as Nora Brannock
• Bobby Cannavale as Dean Brannock
• Jennifer Coolidge as Karen Calhoun
• Mia Farrow as Pearl Winslow
• Margo Martindale as Mo
• Richard Kind as Mitch

How much of the show actually happened? Robby and Shana break down the real-life chilling inspiration behind the series:

• The Real Article: The show is loosely based on a 2018 The Cut article detailing the harrowing experiences of Derek and Maria Broaddus after purchasing a home in Westfield, New Jersey.
• The Letters: Just like on screen, the real family received deeply disturbing letters from a stalker threatening their children.
• The Reality Check: Unlike the television series, the real-life family was so terrorized by the letters that they never actually moved into the home. To this day, the true identity of "The Watcher" has never been found.
