    • Ep.1-Deftones and their Un-released album “Eros”
      Dec 8 2023

My favorite band is Deftones. Their first studio album is “Adrenaline” which came out in 1995. They are now about to release their 10th studio album slated for this year. Frontman Chino Moreno has multiple side bands, which I will discuss in future podcasts. In this episode, I will be discussing the album that was never released, titled “Eros”. Sadly, it was never released because bassist Chi Cheng passed away after being in a semi coma state for 5 years. He and his sister were involved in a motor vehicle accident that occurred in Monterey, California in November 2008. He wasn’t wearing his seatbelt and was injected from the vehicle. Thankfully an off duty paramedic saw the accident and saved his life. The album was also supposed to be released that same year. Chino released one song from Eros, entitled “Smile” from his YouTube page in 2014 because he felt the fans needed to hear it and it was Chi’s last recording with the band.

We only know of three tracks from Eros: Dallas(Instrumental), Smile and Melanie(Played live once in Ventura, California in October 2008,

Deftones went on to release the album “Diamond Eyes” in 2010 in remembrance of Chi and focus on the future of the band. They then went on to release my Favorite album of theirs, “Koi No Yokan” in 2012. Which means premonition of love/falling in love.

Side Notes: Chi went to SAC State and released spoken word recordings, which he donated the proceeds to buy instruments for kids in Sacramento.
