Don’t wait for certainty to make a difference! These were the closing words of the 55th St. Gallen Symposium, which took place on May 6 and 7, 2026.

Every year, the International Students’ Committee (ISC), made up of ambitious and engaged HSG students, brings more than 1,000 people to campus. Their goal is to foster dialogue across generations, cultures and backgrounds by connecting the leaders of today with the leaders of tomorrow.

This year’s theme, “Disrupted Age”, reflects a world shaped by constant change and disruption. In this episode, Syra takes listeners behind the scenes of the Symposium and shares what it is like to be part of this unique experience. She speaks with members of the ISC, Leaders of Tomorrow, and the three finalists of the essay competition.

Jing Wu’s path doesn’t follow the usual script. She started in food science in Shanghai and is now a PhD candidate at the University of St.Gallen, working where nutrition meets data and technology. At the center of it all is her idea of a digital food coach, an app that uses shopping data to turn everyday purchases into personalized nutrition advice.

In this episode, she shares what it really takes to switch fields, what kept her going along the way, and why curiosity matters more than having a perfect plan. The discussion is about building something out of research, the tension between academic depth and real-world impact, and how she is trying to turn an idea into a product that could actually change how people eat.

In dieser Folge spricht Syra mit Leonardo Moser, Präsident der SHSG, über seinen Weg an die HSG und darüber, was es heisst, Verantwortung für rund 10'000 Studierende zu tragen.

Leo ist nicht den klassischen Weg gegangen. Seine Reise beginnt mit einer Lehre bei der Helvetia und führt ihn Schritt für Schritt ins Studium. Dabei lief nicht alles glatt, unter anderem musste er das Assessment wiederholen. Genau diese Erfahrungen prägen ihn bis heute.

HSG-Student Moritz Beyn ist Teil eines Startups, das den Skisport neu denkt. Die Idee: E-Ski, quasi ein Pendant zum E-Bike, aber für den Einsatz im Schnee. Ziel ist es, den Aufstieg beim Tourenski deutlich zu erleichtern und damit mehr Menschen Zugang zu dieser Sportart zu ermöglichen.

Moritz bringt selbst eine grosse Leidenschaft für die Berge mit und erzählt im Podcast, wie aus dieser Passion ein konkretes Produkt entstanden ist. Es geht darum, wie sich Technologie und Natur verbinden lassen und welche Rolle Inklusion im alpinen Raum spielen kann.

Gleichzeitig gibt er Einblicke in den Aufbau eines Startups in einem Nischenmarkt und spricht offen darüber, was er auf diesem Weg gelernt hat.

In this episode, HSG-student Mahmoud shares his story that begins in Syria and unfolds in Switzerland. Arriving at fifteen, he suddenly found himself in a completely new world. New language, new culture, new expectations. What followed was not an easy transition, but a journey shaped by determination and an unwavering sense of ambition.

Mahmoud talks about what it really means to start over. From learning French from scratch to eventually completing his Matura, he reflects on the moments that pushed him forward and the mindset that helped him navigate a life between two very different realities. Growing up with the uncertainty of war and then stepping into the opportunities of Switzerland gave him a perspective few people his age carry.

At the same time, this episode goes beyond achievements. Mahmoud speaks openly about the emotional side of migration. The feeling of being between places. The slow process of building friendships, trust and a sense of belonging in a new country.

Today, Mahmoud sees his life as a bridge between two worlds. With his education and experiences, he hopes to strengthen connections between Syria and Switzerland and contribute to social development in the country where his story began.
