Ted Smith spent much of his life with joy tucked away somewhere deep inside—a feeling that didn’t always feel safe to experience. Then, one morning at 5 a.m., an idea arrived: an Inner Council made up of the different parts of ourselves, all sitting down together for a conversation.

What unfolded was hilarious, creative, deeply insightful…and unexpectedly joyful. ✨

In this conversation, Ted and Katie explore what it means to rediscover joy, rather than discover it—as if joy was never really gone, just covered over by fear, conditioning, doubt, and the many ways we learn to protect ourselves.

Ted shares his journey from living mostly “from the neck up” to allowing himself to feel the full range of human emotion—and discovering that joy and sadness, joy and grief, joy and fear can actually exist side by side. 💛

They talk about creating from what feels fun rather than trying to please an audience, finding freedom in choosing how we want to live and love, and the beautiful connection between loving ourselves and experiencing deeper relationships with others.

And then, because this conversation is nothing if not joyful, Ted introduces Katie to a practice called Seeing the Gold in You—a simple, beautiful invitation to notice the light in another person…and to practice receiving it when someone sees the light in you. ✨

Prepare to laugh, feel, and maybe rediscover a little joy of your own. 💫

From a heartbreaking moment in her relationship with Tom to a recent disappointment in her writing journey, she discovers the magic of shifting from rejection to redirection.

Instead of seeing one path marked DO NOT ENTER, imagine a tree with branches stretching in every direction, each one offering a new possibility.

Dr. Roxane Langlois is an emergency-room doctor and visionary who is exploring what becomes possible when modern medicine meets deeper self-awareness, spirituality, and the wisdom of the body.

After years of working in emergency medicine, Roxane began to feel that something was missing. She wanted to move beyond reacting to illness and toward prevention, helping people connect more deeply with themselves before their bodies were forced to get their attention.

A powerful vision that came to her while traveling in Sri Lanka eventually became the foundation for her work with male leaders—helping them open their hearts, reconnect with their emotions, and access the inner guidance that can transform not only their own lives, but their businesses, families, and communities.

In this conversation, Katie and Roxane explore:

✨ What it means to “open the heart”
✨ The connection between emotions, energy, and physical health
✨ Why illness can be viewed as an invitation to listen rather than a personal failure
✨ Bringing greater prevention and self-awareness into medicine
✨ The role of nature, meditation, movement, and genuine play in going within
✨ Why highly successful leaders may be ready for a deeper level of self-discovery
✨ The importance of nurturing rather than judging those who are hurting
✨ Roxane’s vision for the future of medicine and leadership

Roxane brings a unique perspective as both a medical professional and a spiritual explorer—and her vision for healthier, more connected leadership is one that reaches far beyond the individual.

Katie discovered that her need for approval just needed a little approval of its own before it could finally be set free. ✨✨✨

In this episode, Katie explores her ongoing relationship with the need for external approval—from childhood stickers and school grades to social media likes, creative work, and sharing her writing. She discovers that repeatedly trying to silence, suppress, or judge this part of herself may actually be keeping it alive.

A passage from A World Made New offers a fresh perspective: instead of denying the parts of ourselves we'd rather not see, what if we allow them to be seen, honored, and lifted into the light?

Katie shares the little love letter she wrote to her own "Miss Need for Approval," thanking this part of herself for how it once helped her, while gently releasing it to find freedom in creating simply for the joy of creation.

Along the way, she reflects on the difference between creating for the little "sugar cube" hit of external validation and creating from the deeper joy of inspiration—and invites you to explore your own "sticky things" with curiosity, compassion, and perhaps even a little approval.

In this episode:

✨ Why the need for approval can keep resurfacing

🍬 The "tiny dollhouse-sized sugar cube" of a social media like

🎨 Creating for joy rather than external validation

🌱 What happens when we stop judging the parts of ourselves we'd like to change

This week, a quiet hike through the woods led to an unexpected question from Source:

"From what would you like to declare independence?"

Inspired by the Declaration of Independence (and a hilarious Larry David sketch), Katie explores what it might feel like to declare freedom from the "shoulds," self-doubt, comparison, approval-seeking, and all the mind-made fears that keep us from living as our truest selves.

Through a simple but powerful journaling practice, she invites you to discover your own self-evident truths and create a personal Declaration of Independence—one rooted in love, trust, expansion, joy, and peace.

And because no episode is complete without a little delight... stay until the end for a wonderfully quirky dream involving mermaid costumes, an açaí bowl, and a surprising real-life synchronicity. 🧜‍♀️✨

Sometimes the most meaningful journeys begin with a tiny spark of inspiration.

Fresh from a joyful trip to Fairbanks, Alaska, where family gathered to celebrate Tom's mom's beautiful life, Katie reflects on what it means to follow the "golden steps"—those quiet nudges of inspiration that invite us to move forward without knowing exactly where they will lead.

Through stories of writing articles, unexpected silences, serendipitous reunions, imaginary flower shops, spontaneous adventures, family laughter, and finding the courage to speak from the heart, Katie discovers that the true gift of following inspiration isn't always the outcome her mind imagined.

Instead, each joyful step becomes part of something even more beautiful, gently preparing her for experiences she never could have planned—including the opportunity to release a lifelong fear and honor someone she deeply loved.

✨ A joyful reflection on trusting inspiration, embracing unexpected unfoldings, and discovering that the next golden step may lead somewhere even better than we ever could have imagined. ✨

A funny phrase popped into Katie's mind one morning: "researching the light out of it." And the more she sat with it, the more she began to see how often the search for certainty can drown out the wisdom that already lives within us.

Through stories of health, travel, education, home projects, and following unexpected inspirations, Katie reflects on the difference between learning because something lights us up and researching because we're afraid to trust ourselves.

Along the way, she explores intuition, overwhelm, inner knowing, and the surprising magic that can happen when we stop searching for the perfect answer and start listening for the next golden step.

✨ A warm and expansive conversation about trusting yourself, following what lights up, and allowing clarity to arise with a little more ease and a lot less effort. ✨
