    Cape Verde has had a fairytale story during its first appearance at the World Cup, making it to the knockout round. But its team captain, Ryan Mendez, is now being investigated by New Zealand police on rape allegations. A Brazilian woman working as an interpreter for the National team says Mendez forcibly raped her in a hotel room in March and claims she has medical and photographic proof of the assault. Cape Verde plays Argentina on Friday with Mendez as its star player, and as of this recording, there is no announced disciplinary action against the Mendez aa New Zealand officials continue to investigate the allegations.
