AGECRAFT After Dark is what happens when the 3 a.m. thoughts stop being ignored and start being followed.

Formerly Circling the Drain, this next iteration expands the conversation beyond menopause and midlife into something wider, weirder, and more alive—aging, identity, and reinvention for women, queer, and gender-expansive people who know there’s no neat box to fit into and no final version waiting on the other side.

The “ghosts” here aren’t paranormal (usually). They’re inherited patterns, past selves, and memories that still have opinions. Instead of exorcising them, we get curious.

Expect thoughtful conversations, sharp humor, and stories that are personal, cultural, and occasionally a little strange.

If you’re listening at night, that tracks.

Welcome to the circle.

  • Menopause, Peptides & Why Your Labs Aren’t the Whole Story with Jackie Giannelli
    Oct 20 2026

    Send us Fan Mail

Your labs are normal. Congratulations. So why do you still feel like shit?

Julia sits down with Jackie Giannelli, board-certified family nurse practitioner and Menopause Society-certified practitioner, to talk about what happens when the numbers on the page don’t match what’s happening in your body.

They get into menopause and hormone therapy, why lab results are only one piece of the puzzle, GLP-1s beyond weight loss, the rapidly evolving world of peptides, and why getting the hormonal and metabolic foundations right matters before piling on more treatments.

Then there’s sex. Jackie breaks down spontaneous versus responsive desire, what GLP-1s may do to libido and orgasm, why losing “food noise” can sometimes come with unexpected tradeoffs, and the emerging treatments she’s watching in sexual medicine.

They also tackle the growing business of menopause care, where telehealth can fill critical gaps—and what can get lost when healthcare is designed to scale.

Smart, nuanced, occasionally sweary, and refreshingly uninterested in telling midlife women that feeling like garbage is simply something they have to accept.

  • I Was Definitely a Witch with Dr. Rachel Pope
    Oct 6 2026

    Send us Fan Mail

October is Menopause Awareness Month, so we’re celebrating the AGECRAFT way: by talking openly about the things nobody bothered to tell us about our changing bodies.

This week, Julia sits down with Dr. Rachel Pope, a board-certified OB-GYN and sexual health specialist, for a candid conversation about the gaps that still exist in women’s and sexual healthcare.

They talk about cancer survivorship and surgical menopause, genitourinary syndrome of menopause (GSM), changing sexual function and desire, and why so many women assume they’re the only ones experiencing these changes.

They also explore the overlap between menopause care and gender-affirming care: hormones, sexual function, pleasure, confidence, agency, and the desire to feel at home in your own body.

Plus, Rachel and Julia get into the current enthusiasm around hormone therapy, why swinging from “nobody should take hormones” to “everybody needs hormones” misses a whole lot of nuance, and why science is still playing catch-up when it comes to women’s bodies.

Dr. Rachel Pope is Chief of the Female Sexual Health Division at University Hospitals Cleveland Medical Center and part of its Gender Care Program. She is the founder of Our Womanity and co-founder of The Menopause Retreat.

And as for why this episode is called I Was Definitely a Witch?

  • Plot Twists, Space Pirates & the Power of Tenacity With Briana McDonald
    Sep 22 2026

    Send us Fan Mail

What happens when you stop waiting to have everything figured out before letting yourself be the hero of the story?

Julia sits down with author Briana McDonald to talk about writing queer kids into the center of mystery and adventure stories, why girls deserve to do all the cool shit, and what rejection, grief, identity, and uncertainty have taught her about letting go of control.

Briana is the author of the middle-grade novels Pepper’s Rules for Secret Sleuthing, The Secrets of Stone Creek, and Galaxy Jones and the Space Pirates, published by Simon & Schuster Books for Young Readers.

Plus: one seriously consequential moment of intuition and a bibliomancy reading featuring a surprisingly tenacious little bird.

Because sometimes you don’t need to know how the story ends. You just need to keep writing it.
