You Want to Heal — So Why Won’t You Let Your Guard Down?

    You want to heal.

    But your guard stays up.

    Not because you’re closed off.

Not because you don’t want better.

But because staying guarded has been how you’ve kept yourself safe.

Your guard shows up in everyday life.

It’s in the way you’re always watching what’s going on around you.

The way you stay prepared for something to go wrong, even when things are okay.

The way you don’t fully relax, even in your own space.

The way your body stays tense, like it’s waiting for the next hit.

You’ve learned that nobody is coming to protect you.

    So you do it yourself.

    You stay alert.

    You stay ready.

You don’t let yourself get caught slipping — not for a second.

    That guard has protected you.

It’s helped you survive situations where being open would’ve cost you.

It’s helped you stay in control when things felt unpredictable.

    But it’s also exhausting.

Because when your guard is always up, you’re never fully here.

    You’re always scanning.

    Always preparing.

Always bracing for something, even when there’s nothing happening.

    So healing feels complicated.

Not because you don’t want it — but because letting your guard down feels like losing the one thing that’s kept you safe. And without that guard, you don’t know how to trust yourself, your environment, or the people around you.

This episode is about understanding what your guard has been doing for you — and how it can protect you and hold you back at the same time.

Because healing doesn’t ask you to get rid of your guard overnight.

It starts by helping you feel safe enough with yourself that you don’t have to live in protection mode every moment of the day.

Stuck in Your Healing and Don’t Know Where to Start? Let’s Talk About It

“I don’t know where to start.”

    That thought keeps coming up.
Every time you think about healing, it shows up again.

You want to move forward, but then your mind starts racing.
    There are too many options.
There are too many ways to do this.
Too many voices telling you what healing is supposed to look like.

    So you wait.
You tell yourself you’ll come back to it when it makes more sense.
    When you feel clearer.
When you know you’re doing it the right way.

You keep replaying it in your head.
“What if I start the wrong way? ”
“What if I make it worse? ”
“What if I don’t do this right? ”

So you stay where you are.
Not because you don’t want healing—but because standing still feels safer than choosing wrong.

And the longer you wait, the heavier it starts to feel. Like healing turned into something big. Something you have to be sure about before you touch it.

If you keep telling yourself you’ll start healing once things make more sense, this episode helps you see why that moment never really comes—and why that doesn’t mean you can’t start anyway.

  • S5-EP1: You’re Not Ready to Heal Yet—But Are You Willing to Try? | Rose Jones
    Feb 4 2026

    Send us a text

You’re Not Ready to Heal Yet — But Are You Willing to Try?

A lot of women say they want to heal, but they keep putting it off.

    Not because they don’t care.
Not because they’re avoiding the work.
But because they keep waiting for this moment where they feel “ready.”

    Ready usually means feeling calm.
    Or stable.
Or less affected by what happened.
Or sure, they won’t fall apart once they open things up.

In this episode, I talk about why that version of “ready” rarely shows up — and why waiting for it keeps so many women stuck longer than they need to be. Healing doesn’t start when life feels quiet or when you finally feel strong enough. It usually starts while you’re still scared, still guarded, and still unsure of what’s going to come up.

I break down the real difference between being ready and being willing and why willingness doesn’t mean pushing yourself or forcing anything. It means being honest about where you are and choosing not to abandon yourself while you’re there.

We talk about why your body stays on guard, why fear shows up even when you want to heal, and why needing certainty before you begin makes healing feel impossible. This isn’t about motivation or mindset. It’s about understanding what actually helps people start — and keep going — without overwhelming themselves.

If you’ve been telling yourself, “I’ll heal when I’m ready,” this episode offers a different way to look at it. One that doesn’t require confidence, answers, or emotional stability, just a willingness to stay present with yourself instead of waiting to feel different first.
