I’m Megan, your host, and each week I revisit unsolved cases from decades past, stories that have too often been forgotten or overlooked. Together, we examine the facts, question the myths of the “good old days,” and ask whether a simpler time was ever really a safer one.
This podcast honors the people at the heart of each case, focusing not on sensationalism, but on the lives affected and the justice still waiting to be served.

  • The One Still Missing: The Unsolved Abduction of Bambi Brantley
    Apr 27 2026
From 1986 to 1990, a small community in Louisiana was shaken by a series of disappearances involving teenage girls and young women. By 1990, after multiple cases happened close together, people began to notice patterns.

Some of the victims shared similar appearances. A few were last known to be using a phone, including public payphones, around the time they vanished. Some were the teenage daughters of military families stationed nearby. Others were new to the area. As the community tried to make sense of it, many believed the cases had to be connected. But over time, arrests would show something more complicated. These disappearances were not all the work of a single person. Some of these cases have since been solved. Others remain cold. And one woman is still missing.

Her name is Bambi. Today, I’m focusing on her case. But to understand it, we also have to look at the others, where they stand, what connects them, and what does not. Because it raises a bigger question. How did a town of just five thousand people experience this much loss in such a short period of time?

    Episode 1: Send Recovery
    On September 9th, 2023, at 9:45 PM, a 911 call was made.
A witness reported a white sedan sitting on River Road in the Sacramento Delta.
Moments later, that same car began to move—rolling slowly from a stop, turning down an embankment, and disappearing into the Sacramento River.
    Emergency response was called.
But what happened next, doesn’t make sense.
Within hours, the call was downgraded.
    Medical was cancelled.
No confirmed search took place the following day.
Two days later, a dive team finally located the vehicle.
Four days later, Jeff Anderson was pulled from the bottom of the river—just 500 feet from where the car entered the water.
    His car was:
    -upside down
    - in park.
    Keys in his pocket.
His body in the back seat.
    His phone was never recovered.
And in the months after his death—someone attempted to access his accounts.

    Authorities ruled it an accident.

    We disagree.

In this first chapter of Secrets Beyond the Sacramento River, we walk you through the night Jeff Anderson lost his life—using dispatch calls, witness statements, and official reports—to uncover one question:

    What happened to Jeff Anderson?

  • Ambushed From The Shadows: The Unsolved Murder of Officer Kevin Brame
    Apr 20 2026
On November 1, 1999, Dayton Police Officer Kevin Brame spent an unexpected evening with his two sons and his family. His estranged wife had called to say the boys were hoping to see him, and he never passed up a chance to be with them, especially as everyone was adjusting to life during the separation. He got the boys home in time for baths and bed on a school night, and stayed a little while to set up the new video game he had bought them earlier. Later, he planned to head back to the apartment he had just moved into eight days before, a place he was still in the middle of renovating. As he walked out toward his car, someone stepped from the bushes in front of the home and shot Kevin in the neck, killing him. Kevin had served six years with the Dayton Police Department, following in the footsteps of his father, a retired detective. His murder struck deeply within the department, not just as a case to solve, but as the loss of one of their own. More than twenty five years later, the city of Dayton and Kevin’s family are still searching for answers.TIPS: Miami Valley Crimestoppers (937) 222-STOP or www.justiceforkevinbrame.com Case suggestions: simplertimecrimepod@gmail.comIG: @simplertimecrimepodYoutube: https://youtube.com/@simplertimecrimepod?si=OlCWQ2Ky8qFaof02TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@simplertimecrimep?_t=8s31x9iCrNv&_r=1Music By Universfield: https://pixabay.com/music/mystery-dramatic-atmosphere-with-piano-and-violin-143149/Thumbmail art: Lauren Kelty, host of True Crime BFF PodcastSource Material: https://justiceforkevinbrame.com/https://www.fbi.gov/wanted/seeking-info/kevin-bramehttps://www.nbcnews.com/feature/cold-case-spotlight/dayton-police-officer-kevin-brame-s-murder-remains-unsolved-after-n817476https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6sF_nEPtSSM (Clip from WDTNTV2) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z1BPLvpCAUo (Detective Perspective)https://www.newspapers.com/article/dayton-daily-news-always-the-good-ones-1/195775290/https://www.newspapers.com/article/dayton-daily-news-always-the-good-22/195775328/https://www.newspapers.com/article/the-akron-beacon-journal-police-vow-to-f/195791725/https://www.newspapers.com/article/dayton-daily-news-no-leads-in-police-sho/195792050/https://www.newspapers.com/article/dayton-daily-news-kevin-brame-obit/195792355/https://www.newspapers.com/article/dayton-daily-news-bidding-farewell-to-on/195792401/https://www.newspapers.com/article/dayton-daily-news-reward/195793626/https://www.newspapers.com/article/dayton-daily-news-awards/195794180/https://www.newspapers.com/article/dayton-daily-news-award/195794328/https://www.newspapers.com/article/dayton-daily-news-cops-widow-sues-polic/195794579/https://www.newspapers.com/article/dayton-daily-news-wants-two-detectives-u/195794798/https://www.newspapers.com/article/dayton-daily-news-widow-sues-insurers/195794970/https://www.newspapers.com/article/dayton-daily-news-12500-reward/195795099/https://www.newspapers.com/article/dayton-daily-news-vigil-held-to-remember/195795226/https://www.newspapers.com/article/dayton-daily-news-one-year-later/195815431/https://www.newspapers.com/article/dayton-daily-news-slaying-is-unsolved-2/195815630/https://www.newspapers.com/article/dayton-daily-news-crime-stoppers/195816540/https://www.newspapers.com/article/dayton-daily-news-additional-reward-mone/195816586/https://www.newspapers.com/article/dayton-daily-news-almost-2-year-vigil/195816776/https://www.newspapers.com/article/dayton-daily-news-killer-still-at-large/195817070/https://www.newspapers.com/article/dayton-daily-news-rosemary-letter/195817163/https://www.newspapers.com/article/dayton-daily-news-presses-commission/195818632/https://www.newspapers.com/article/dayton-daily-news-3-years-later-details/195818794/https://www.newspapers.com/article/dayton-daily-news-reward-raised-to-100k/195818934/https://www.newspapers.com/article/dayton-daily-news-event-held/195819179/https://www.newspapers.com/article/dayton-daily-news-letter-from-rosemary-o/195819602/https://www.newspapers.com/article/dayton-daily-news-brame-slaying-still-un/195831166/https://www.newspapers.com/article/dayton-daily-news-mention-of-brame/195831523/https://www.newspapers.com/article/dayton-daily-news-raid-home-12/195831593/https://www.newspapers.com/article/dayton-daily-news-raid-house-22/195831812/https://www.newspapers.com/article/dayton-daily-news-homicide-team-livesbr/195832147/https://www.newspapers.com/article/dayton-daily-news-livesbreathes-22/195833649/https://www.newspapers.com/article/dayton-daily-news-memorial/195833973/https://www.newspapers.com/article/dayton-daily-news-victory-amidst-lost/195834080/https://www.newspapers.com/article/dayton-daily-news-victory-amidst-loss/195834145/https://www.newspapers.com/article/dayton-daily-news-brames-family-still-m/195834926/https://www.newspapers.com/article/dayton-daily-news-picnic-to-stop-violenc/195836687/https://www.newspapers.com/article/dayton-daily-news-5-year-prayer-vigil-he/195836826/https://...
