The word ‘Nachos’ comes from the nickname of its inventor, Ignacio ‘Nacho’ Anaya, a restaurateur in Piedras Negras, Mexico, who created the dish in 1943 for American military wives. ‘Nacho’ is a common Spanish nickname for Ignacio, and the original dish, ‘Nacho's Especiales’ was later shortened to ‘Nachos’. Bought originally to make Changs Crispy Noodle Salad I actually noticed this recipe on the back of the packet. 3 simple ingredients is all you need. Talk about nostalgic foods ~ Anyone born in the 70s and 80s knows of, and loves, this recipe and those born later should know of this recipe (haha!) It uses small cocktail frankfurters, held together with cheese and tommy sauce all encased in a strip of bread, baked to golden glory.
