In 2011 my close friend and collaborator Danilo Alvarez was on vacation with his ex-girlfriend Geraldine in Cali, Colombia. One night on their Colombian vacation the couple ignored an ominous warning from a family member about venturing late at night into the city due to the number of kidnappings in the area.
