À propos de ce contenu audio

Celebrity dog trainer, YouTube sensation, and Animal Planet star Zak George presents a next-generation guide that uses his infectiously energetic style to teach dog-lovers everything they need to know about raising and training their unique pup.

Zak George is a new type of dog trainer. His fresh approach puts a strong emphasis on the relationship with the individual dog - informed by breed-specific traits - allowing people to treat the root cause of behavior issues rather than the symptoms and teach their dogs faster without the use of punishments or stress. For the first time, George has distilled all the information from his hundreds of videos into one master guide that covers everything from play biting and potty training to leash pulling and unwanted barking and jumping. As a bonus, listeners will be able to visit his YouTube channel to see real-life demonstrations of techniques described in the book, providing a truly modern listening experience.

This is a good book for beginners. It includes tips, tricks and useful information on almost every facet of living with a dog, Quite logically, this does mean that a lot of the subjects addressed could use some more depth. I'm not sure the training methods suggested are the most effective, either. But there is, of course, more than one way to teach things, even without leaving the force-free realm.

I appreciate that this book manages to bring (mostly) science-based knowledge to the average dog parent, while keeping it simple. I did, however, encounter one piece of misinformation in the advice to not shave a dog completely because "the coat protects from heat as well as sunburn". While the coat does indeed protect against sunburn, it does not protect against heat. That is a common myth in the dog world, but it is incorrect.

All in all, I would recommend this book to people who are prospective or new dog guardians, so that they can begin their journey in a force-free way right of the bat. I would also recommend it to people who may be experienced dog owners, but are new to modern dog training and upbringing. As an audiobook, it is pleasant to listen to. The style of writing lends itself well to this format. Bonus points for being narrated by the author: you can hear Zak is clearly passionate about the matter.

Good book for beginners, narrated with passion
