Trop bien...
Comme les deux précédents opus. Façon originale et plaisante de rendre le guerre de Troie. J'attends sa version de l'Iliade maintenant.

A Spoonful of Sugar Helps the Medicine Go Down
I said that “a spoonful of sugar helps the medicine go down” in my review of one of the previous volumes. I felt it even more, here. Stephen Fry is a delight to listen to, and I doubt anyone could have done a better job with the story of the Trojan War and all the myths that accompany it. But I wasn’t impressed with the Odyssey and the Iliad in high school, and though 50+ years later I have come to appreciate many books that I didn’t enjoy so much in high school (Dickens, whom I now love, for example), this has not improved with (my) age. War for no good reason. Maybe no war has a really good reason, but this is totally absurd, and they know it. The gods on this side or that. On and on and on. So much hyperbole: the most beautiful, the most valuable, the most powerful. Eh. “Love” for the shallowest of reasons. There are books about war (War and Peace, Stalingrad are two of the best) that can evoke all the emotions and be real, presenting real characters who are developed with all the human flaws. At the every end, in his appendix, Fry says that these stories show all the human weaknesses: envy, pride, lust, etc. and no one has ever done it better than Homer. I beg to differ. I know that these stories are part of the canon and are part of our vocabulary and so I took my medicine. But I can think of so many modern great books that do it better: Les Miserables, A Tale of Two Cities, and so many other great works do it better. I imagine that Shakespeare fans would also think Shakespeare did it better. So, if you need to learn about the mythology of the Trojan War, maybe no one can do it better than Fry, but I am not a convert to appreciating the greatness of this ancient literature.

Outstanding!!
Would give 10 stars if possible.
I’ve listened to Mythos and Hero’s several times and no doubt it will be the same for Troy!
Hoping and praying he’ll cover the Odyssey next.

The muses love Fry
The whole trilogy is a panacea for the weary heart, while Fry’s interpretation is ambrosia for one’s years. I am sincerely grateful to have found these audiobooks. Can’t wait for the odyssey!

A great gift
I have listened to all three audiobooks in this series, some of them twice and I will definitely listen to this great book again. I am so grateful to Stephen Fry for making these works accessible to someone like me with no prior knowledge or background of the subject matter. What a legend.

They all come to life, with their passions, intrigues, plans and strategies in this marvellous account of the destruction of Troy. Can we look forward to the long journey home of our cunning hero?

Excellent (again)
After listening to Heros and Mythology I was waiting for this audio to come out and purchased it right away.
Stephen Fry did not dissapoint.
Altough I read many times the Troy story in XX.cent.syle, so I was familiar with the narrative, Mr.Fry was able to make it even more contemporary. It felt like I was watching a movie about a recent war, with all the personal details and feelings.
Of course also in this volume are explanatory comments.
I would highly recommend for high school studens.

Amazing! Just it isn’t broken down by chapters well.
The book is amazing and if you liked the two previous voyages into greek mythology you will love this. Very calming and enchanting. The reason for a star less is because it isn’t broken by chapters well. It has two giant chapters of 4 hours in the middle and even the other ones comprise a few so it’s a bit hard to orient yourself if you want to listen to something again. But that’s audibles fault and not Stephan Fry’s. No fault with him or his work. Brilliant as always.

Fry the new Schwab?
Never, since I stumbled over Greek‘s immense fundus of capturing legends at a young age by reading Gustav Schwab, have I enjoyed to hear the old stories told in a new way. Fry truly captures the nucleus of the storyline’s and enriches the characters, gods and heros alike with reliable emotions and feelings, making them, most of all, human.
Thank you Stephen!

Beautiful end to an enlightening trilogy
I picked up a Stephen Fry’s mythos some years ago and printed form. It was an extremely memorable experience that I connect with a beautiful excursion with a wonderful friend. I however, for a long time wasn’t able to finish it in its printing form due to lack of time. Early in 2022 I said about reading both it, and the rest of Stephen Fry’s books concerning Greek mythology here on audible, hoping the voice of its acclaimed creator would add a certain pathos, compelling me to overcome my own literary inequities.
It did.
Overall it was a journey exciting, comforting, brimming with information and personal tidbits that neither impeded nor obstructed the matter at hand.
It fills me with great joy to have embarked on said, concluding with this wonderful book.
The highest regards to the author.

a stellar performance !
Stephen Fry brings history (if it is history which after listening to his mythos and heroes and troy I firmly believe!!!) to life! One sees it all, the gods, the humans, the interaction, the fun and the tragedies, the light and the shadows, one stands close by wanting to interfere, to help, to applaud, to mingle…..
an outstanding performance and tour de force, blessed by the gods he so lovingly describes…..

Storytelling at it's finest
I love Stephen Fry's way of weaving in and out of related stories and how he always sprinkles in a little bit of etymology and humor. It is also wonderful to hear an interpretation where the characters are simply portrayed as humans with all their strengths and faults and moments of weaknesses. I cannot recommend this book enough.
