Description
Passion and scandal collide in New York Times best-selling author Julia London's brand-new series about four sisters determined to rescue themselves from ruin....
Desperate times call for daring measures as Honor Cabot, the eldest stepdaughter of the wealthy Earl of Beckington, awaits her family's ruin. Upon the earl's death she and her sisters stand to lose the luxury of their grand home - and their place on the pedestal of society - to their stepbrother and his social-climbing fiancée. Forced to act quickly, Honor makes a devil's bargain with the only rogue in London who can seduce her stepbrother's fiancée out of the Cabots' lives for good.
An illegitimate son of a duke, George Easton was born of scandal and grows his fortune through dangerous risks. But now he and Honor are dabbling in a perilous dance of seduction that puts her reputation and his jaded heart on the line. And as unexpected desire threatens to change the rules of their secret game, the stakes may become too high even for a notorious gambler and a determined, free-spirited debutante to handle.

What happened??
I always enjoy Julia London's books. And narrated by my favorite, Rosalyn Landor. What could be better? I settled in to listen.
Half hour into the story, I paused and went back to read the synopsis. And the Amazon print reviews. All stellar reviews. Okay, maybe it's just me. I started in again.
Four hours later I gave up. Even RL's soothing voice couldn't save this story. It was just bad. I couldn't find one redeeming quality in any of the characters. The heroine is an extrememely self absorbed woman who is working as hard as she can to break her step-brother's engagement to an equally unlikable girl.
You see, the heroine, her mother, and younger sisters are completely dependent on their dying step-father for the roof over their heads. Their step-brother, who will inherit the title, seems a decent sort, but Honor is convinced that his soon to be wife will force her husband to eject Honor's mother and sisters from the family home. Honor is, at first, horrified that she will be relegated to the country where there is NO society! GASP! That's not mentioned again, because Honor comes up with a moral reason to try to break off the engagement. Her mother is 'ill' and oh what WILL we do? It appears that her mother has suffered a brain injury and is having memory trouble. So, of course, she must do everything in her power to make sure all remains as it is. She explains to George Easton, the rogue who she has chosen to seduce the ill-favored fiance away from her step brother, that she just needs a little more time. A little more time to do what, we haven't figured out yet.
I will never know how the story ends. I stopped caring and was actually beginning to root for the brother's fiance.

I had high hope of this story but disappointed
What disappointed you about The Trouble with Honor?
The story is pretty boring. The people are not likable. I actually love the step brother who the heroine tries to hurt. Maybe he is not the smartest guy but he seems sweet.
The hero is another one that I don't get. He sounds like a drunk and a gambler. What makes him so lovable. I don't get. Heroine is vain for sure.
What was most disappointing about Julia London’s story?
I just don't get what makes the heroine loves the hero other than physical attraction and lust. And usually that doesn't last.
Did Rosalyn Landor do a good job differentiating all the characters? How?
Yes, she did a great job but even her narration can't save the boring story.
What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?
Just disappointment.

Definitely a different kind of love story
This is definitely a different kind of love story. It's not hard to imagine why Honor and George are attracted to each other. Honor is, in her own way, just as daring as George. But there is a point where it's hard to understand why they keep coming back together. But what I love about this book is the multiple plot lines going on at the same time. It makes the story that much more interesting.

Funny, romantic & exasperating
This book was a great tool in reuniting me with Julia London's work. I read her books years ago ad enjoyed them greatly. While the story line and the narration were wonderfully entertaining, I often found the characters maddening, especially Honor & her sisters. Many times in the listening, I became so frustrated, I wanted the story to end. Speaking of endings.....what the hey????????

The trouble with the story
the trouble with this story is that Monica, her family and Augustan appeared so often in the story. They spoiled the story and contrary to other reviews I see nothing wrong with Honor. I think the author focused two much on trying to ruin the two main characters instead of developing there story. it's like the author decided to take her anger out on Honor and George while exalting the two protagonists Monica and Augustan

Liked it!
Good passionate story with excellent narration. Recommended for historical romance enthusiast. I liked that this is not a typical rich hero gets the heroine. Both protagonist have their own struggles.
