One evening, her husband Gabriel returns home late from a fashion shoot, and Alicia shoots him five times in the face and then never speaks another word. Histoire
Evelyn Taylor-Clarke sits in her chair at Forest Lawns Care Home in the heart of the English countryside, surrounded by residents with minds not as sharp as hers. It would be easy to dismiss Evelyn as a muddled old woman, but her lipstick is applied perfectly and her buttons done up correctly. Because, Evelyn is a woman with secrets, and Evelyn remembers everything. She can never forget the promise she made to the love of her life to discover the truth about the mission that led to his death, no matter what it cost her.
Description
The compelling new novel from the author of the best-selling Chocolat.
Vianne Rocher has settled down. Lansquenet-sous-Tannes, the place that once rejected her, has finally become her home. With Rosette, her 'special' child, she runs her chocolate shop in the square, talks to her friends on the river, is part of the community. Even Reynaud, the priest, has become a friend.
But when old Narcisse, the florist, dies, leaving a parcel of land to Rosette and a written confession to Reynaud, the life of the sleepy village is once more thrown into disarray. The arrival of Narcisse's relatives, the departure of an old friend and the opening of a mysterious new shop in the place of the florist's across the square - one that mirrors the chocolaterie and has a strange appeal of its own - all seem to herald some kind of change: a confrontation, a turbulence - even, perhaps, a murder....

I regret reading this book, the magic is gone :(
Well, that was bad😣
I can’t believe Joanne did this to me, the reader who has listened to Chocolat and The Lollipop Shoes so many times that I could quote them word for word. Seems like it’s not the main character Vianne, but the writer who’s lost her faith and magic. I’m sorry to say that this book seems extremely rushed, meant to get sales purely😔
The writing is chaotic and so repetitive that it made me question the fact it was Joanne Harris who actually wrote this book. It doesn’t even look like a Chocolat sequel as lots of the characters’ qualities and descriptions are horribly conflicting.
I listened to the book twice, having decided to give it a second chance, but - no. I love the writer’s books, she’s always been my favorite, but I wish I’d never read Strawberry Thief.
And lastly, please let Juliet Stevenson do the narration. Her voice and style are amazing and she’s definitely responsible for 40% of the charm and mystery of Chocolat and Lollipop Shoes🙈

Please don't read your own books.
The story is passable but was ruined for me as it was read by the author. Most of the time I had no idea who was talking as she used the same voice for every character. It's a shame when a book is ruined by its own author. If you must, buy the book in paper or kindle and avoid the audible version, I almost returned the book a dozen times, but made it to the end. Your mileage may vary
