    Description

On the eve of the London season, Jane Chance is about to make her entrance into high society. And after a childhood riddled with poverty and hardship, Jane intends to make a good, safe, and sensible marriage. All goes according to plan until a dark, dangerous vagabond helps her rescue a dog.

Zachary Black is all kinds of unsuitable - a former spy, now in disguise, he's wanted for murder. His instructions: to lie low until his name is cleared. But Zach has never followed the rules, and he wants Jane Chance for his own. If that means blazing his way into London society in whatever guise suits him, that's what he'll do.

Jane knows that she shouldn't fall in love with this unreliable if devastatingly attractive rogue. But Zach is determined - and he's a man accustomed to getting what he wants.

    Pleasant but predictable

Third book in an ongoing series, and in my view the weakest of the series, so far. But it's a pleasant enough post-war romantic mystery, set in London 1817. Contents include one sex scene, minimal violence, minimal swearing.

It was good to see old familiar characters again: Aunt Beatrice and the four Chance sisters, Max, Freddie, the butler Frothby and the footman-cum-bodyguard William. The mutt described in the synopsis played a starring role for a while but then he faded into the background.

THE SPRING BRIDE was pleasant but predictable. The murder charge somehow never felt like an honest theat, and I frequently felt one step ahead of the plot lines. Emotionally I felt little connection to the lead characters.

Still, I'm probably going to read book 4 when it's published — Daisy's story.

I loved Gracie's other series, especially The Perfect Rake and The Perfect Waltz. These two series are similar in many ways, with orphaned or otherwise homeless youth, mangy but loyal animals, "great dame" adoptive aunts, and cast-off servants.

Narrator Alison Larkin was great, but she portrayed the heroine in a somewhat childlike voice, and she needs to learn how to say "laudanum" if she plans to read more historic novels. Also, the quotes at the beginning of each chapter are annoying. They interrupt the flow of the story, in audio format. I skip such assorted quotes when reading, unless they are highly relevant to the plot.

    Google is Your Friend....

Look, just because we enjoy historical romance novels does not mean we are unintelligent. The story is set in 1817. At the end of the book, the bride is walking down the aisle to Mendelssohn's "Wedding March"....which was composed in 1842. OOPS.
This particular book is overly simplistic, cliched and tedious.

However, the other 3 books in the series are enjoyable.

    Another winner by Anne Gracie!

This story is solid, smooth, and well developed. The characters are our co-workers revisited. If you've read the first two, you will enjoy this one a lot. If not, you will become motivated to get the backstory on Jane. No spoilers, just be aware that the publisher's summary is lame, the book is so much more fun than that!
This is the same audio performer as the other two, and while she is quite good, and enhances the character's personalities, sometimes she is a bit too syrupy for my tastes. It is still a good thing that there is the consistency of audio performer.

    The story of Jane

This is the third book in a series about 4 desperate women who are now under the protection of Lady Beatrice. They saved her from devious servants and she in turn saved them from poverty and worry. One of the women is Jane, who is traumatized by past events and her poverty. She is determined to marry a wealthy man so that she can have children and be secure. Jane is beautiful and a pompous little man wants her as his trophy wife. She is now engaged to him. While out shopping, Jane rescues a dog being tormented by a gang of thug boys, but then they attack her. A handsome gyspy man rescues her from the thugs. He is immediately smitten by her beauty and pursues Jane. The man, Zachery Black, is actually an Earle in hiding dressed as a gypsy. He must keep his identity secret because of a pending murder charge. Zachery is determined to win the love of Jane and clear his name. It is fun to hear about the interplay between Jane, her fiancé and Zachery. Very entertaining with quite a few great characters. Lady Beatrice is one of my favorites. I enjoyed this book but the first book in the series is the best, in my opinion.

    Not that great...

I don't normally write anything negative but I couldn't wait for this book to be over. The characters were so underdeveloped and annoying that it was hard to care about them. In one section, there were what seemed like endless pages of a bedroom scene that seemed incongruous with the rest of the book. Jane's frequent and stupid arguments that did not seem in character with the practical, ethical and kind young ladies we came to know in the last books in the series. I ended up fast-forwarding through the aforementioned scenes and eventually skipping a couple of chapters. One more to go in this series and hopefully it's better and more in line with the first two books that I enjoyed very much. The narration was decent, good and serviceable but compared to narrators like Katherine Kellgren and Davina Porter, not a standout.

    Loved Book 3!

I truly enjoyed book 3 of this series as much as the first 2. The narrator is excellent and adds a lot of depth to the story.

Clean basically but not very much romance

No sex scenes until the end which is fine but there just isn't much of a romance. It's a cute story but just more running around than a romance

Not as good as the first two

This is the third book in a series of four. The first two, the fall and the winter bride, were more interesting. In this book, the main character is Jane, the 18 year old younger sister. She doesn’t have the personality or depth of the other “sisters” in the stories. It was okay but I’d probably skip it unless you really want to know who she ends up marrying.

    Love This Series!!

I have, to date, read The Autumn Bride, The Winter Bride, & now The Spring Bride, leaving me the 4th, & last, book in this series, The Summer Bride. I had no idea or expectations when I first began listening to this series. I was pleasantly surprised & delighted at the wit & charm of the characters in each book. And the exceptionally skilled narration by Alison Larkin makes Anne Gracie's brilliantly written stories come alive.

    Fun through and through

Loved it and the 2 stories before it. Can hardly wait to start the next one.
