Histoire
When it was published in 1955, Lolita immediately became a cause celebre because of the freedom and sophistication with which it handled the unusual erotic predilections of its protagonist. But Vladimir Nabokov's wise, ironic, elegant masterpiece owes its stature as one of the 20th century's novels of record not to the controversy its material aroused but to its author's use of that material to tell a love story that is shocking in its beauty and tenderness.

Histoire
One of Jane Austen’s most beloved works, Pride and Prejudice, is vividly brought to life by Academy Award nominee Rosamund Pike ( Gone Girl). In her bright and energetic performance of this British classic, she expertly captures Austen’s signature wit and tone. Her attention to detail, her literary background, and her performance in the 2005 feature film version of the novel provide the perfect foundation from which to convey the story of Elizabeth Bennet, her four sisters, and the inimitable Mr. Darcy.

Histoire
Jane Eyre follows the emotions and experiences of eponymous Jane Eyre, her growth to adulthood, and her love for Mr. Rochester, the byronic master of Thornfield Hall. The novel contains elements of social criticism, with a strong sense of morality at its core, but is nonetheless a novel many consider ahead of its time given the individualistic character of Jane and the novel's exploration of sexuality, religion, and proto-feminism.

Description
Brought to you by Penguin.
This Penguin Classic is performed by Ben Barnes, star of the film adaptation of Dorian Gray, also known for his roles in Westworld and The Chronicles of Narnia. This definitive recording includes an introduction by Robert Mighall.
Enthralled by his own exquisite portrait, Dorian Gray exchanges his soul for eternal youth and beauty. Influenced by his friend Lord Henry Wotton, he is drawn into a corrupt double life; indulging his desires in secret while remaining a gentleman in the eyes of polite society. Only his portrait bears the traces of his decadence. The novel was a succès de scandale and the book was later used as evidence against Wilde at the Old Bailey in 1895. It has lost none of its power to fascinate and disturb.

Absolutely exquisite
I haven't read anything this brilliant in a long time, I got the audiobook specifically to support Mr. Barnes, however this book is thrilling in ways I hadn't expected. People kept asking if I was reading for a university class, but it had just caught my attention that deeply, that I had to read it. Oscar Wilde was an amazing author and invoked my innermost poet. I didn't want to finish the book, it was that good. I will definitely read it again soon. Truly divine.

Great book
It’s sad that Victorians were so caught up about “sins” that most people today would have far more compassion about. Dorian Gray is actually a pretty good guy. His worst crime... well, I won’t give that away. It’s a good book. I enjoyed it. Even though I liked the immoral characters the best.
NOTE TO AUDIBLE: ADVERTISEMENTS AT THE END OF BOOKS RUINS THE EFFECT OF THE ENDING. PLEASE STOP IT.

worth it for the introduction alone (this is not the best version to buy on audible)

Perfect Narrator!
Some might say I am extremely biased, given my adoration for Ben Barnes, but I promise you, I've judged this fairly. Mr. Barnes is a perfect narrator for this, his voice is complimentary to Wilde's story. He brings us back to Dorian Gray's life and times, the highs and lows, the horror. It's a rich story and he reads it perfectly. I was intrigued from the very beginning to the very end. I'm not a big audiobook person, but I love this. Bravo, Ben!
