    Description

This brooch saga begins July 14, 1789, the day French revolutionaries stormed the Bastille! And America’s ambassador to France, Thomas Jefferson, comes to Sophia Orsini's rescue....

Sophia Orsini, a time-traveling Italian artist, believes she understands how the pearl brooch magic works, but when it abandons her in the middle of an 18th century Paris mob, she realizes she was wrong.

America’s ambassador to France, Thomas Jefferson, comes to Sophia’s rescue, but that meeting leads her down a path she otherwise wouldn’t have chosen.

Kevin Fraser and his pregnant wife, JL, fly in his Cessna to enjoy a weekend at Mallory Plantation in Virginia, but wind shear turns Kevin's textbook landing into a disaster and the plane through a chain-link fence, injuring JL and sending her into premature labor.

Pete Parrino, VP of Global Security for MacKlenna Corporation, is in Florence on business when he stumbles upon Sophia Orsini’s art studio. Sophia is the love of Pete’s life, and he hasn’t seen or heard from her in 20 years. When he discovers she hasn’t returned from her annual two-week holiday, he breaks into her studio and finds evidence that she’s a time traveler.

When the clan discovers where she is, Pete, Matt Kelly, and Jack Mallory must decide how much of America’s history they’re willing to change in order to bring Sophia back to the future.

    Almost Unbearable Narration

I am still in the process of listening but had to write this. Let me start by saying that I love this series and have listened to all the previous books twice and I had been very excited for The Pearl Brooch to be released. There is a new narrator for this book and she is awful! The accents are terrible, the Scottish keeps slipping into British and the French is painful. It is really hard to listen too, I'm so disappointed. PLEASE bring back Teri Schnaubelt!

Please bring back the previous narrator

I have listened to all the Celtic Brooch books, and have loved them. Always look forward to a new one. However something is really wrong with this one. I am having a hard time listening to it. Between the whiny characters and the narrator it’s just not as enjoyable as the others.

Narrator almost made me give up

I love the Brooch stories and enjoyed every other audio book version. This narrator makes the story so hard to listen to. Her delivery is stilted, her phrasing is odd and her accents are completely wrong. The voices she uses for the different characters make them almost unlikable people. I really liked the story and the early American history but the narrator really ruined this one for me.

Love the series ... not this narrator

It's hard to get into a series and then have the narrator changed 8 books in ... pronunciation issues (Seamus!) ... Some storylines just felt unfinished ... like something was missing ... wanted to love it more ... still recommend the series

    Narration is terrible

I really like the story but the narration is terrible. The accents are terrible. And the narrator pronounces all sorts of words incorrectly.
Why did they use a different narrator this time? The narrator for all the prior books did a great job.

    Narration Ruins a Good Story

The narration is stiff and completely lacking in emotion. I am really struggling with this installment of The Celtic Brooch series and am considering asking for a refund. Will likely just buy the book to read in my voice. After loving every book in the series before this one, I don't think I will buy the next installment if the same narrator is used. Definitely bring back Teri Schnaubelt.

    Disappointed in narration

I have listened to all the books in the Broach series and have loved them all. Though I enjoyed The Pearl Broach, as far as the story was concerned. I’m sure the author had a good reason for changing narrators on the 9th book. There are many characters, nationalities, dialects and age groups that are represented in these books; it’s a complex read. I found the English narration, though clear, lacked a conversational cadence, the Scottish accents, which were at the heart of the books, were downright horrible. One character who grew up in New York, but lived in Virginia was spoken with a (not so good) southern drawl. It was hard to keep track of who was speaking, unless their name was mentioned, which I didn’t find to be the case in previous books.
Regarding the story itself, I liked how the legend was developed more, and appreciated the American history elements immensely. I also loved getting caught up with the various family members and their kids. I look forward to future books, but hope the author either goes back to the original narrator, or finds someone better able to handle the complexity’s of the characters in her books.

    Wonderful story... but.....

As usual Ms Logan has hit another home run, but the narration is such a disappointment. Ms Lee is seriously confused regarding the difference between an Irish and Scots accent. Elliott Fraser is not from the Emerald Isle but her rendition isn’t even a mediocre Irish brogue. Please, please bring back Ms Schnaubelt. She gave Ms Logan’s well-loved characters their voices. Or at the very least, find a linguistic coach for Ms Lee.

    I expected better

Ok the story for me didn’t get good until about 7 hours left of this book It took me fast forwarding a lot to get through this. And then the Narrator OMG going from Terri Schnabelt to this one horrible. I look for books with her as the narrator she pulls you in the story. Overall it was ok

Sadly it feels like the series has run its course

I’ve loved this series, and maybe it’s just me, but this one felt so contrived—like I almost could have written it myself because it’s all so formulaic and predictable.

I did not care for the new narrator at all. She had weird phrasing constantly and didn’t feel connected to the story or characters at all. And her mispronunciations were rampant. I’m no linguist but even I know that Seamus is pronounced “Shay-mus”, not “Sea-mus”! And her pronunciation of the brooch phrase sounded French, not Gaelic.
