Description
Former Navy SEAL meets childhood crush in 1896 New York City....
Where danger lurks, romance blooms, and old wounds surface.
When Tavis Stuart’s estranged mother calls to ask for his help, he says no until she tells him her goddaughter and Tavis’s childhood best friend, archaeologist Aislinn Kennedy, has gone missing. Then when his mother tells him Aislinn disappeared from the museum in Rome where she was working on a Greek and Roman treasure found in a North Dakota cave, he agrees to help. After consulting with Elliott Fraser, Tavis calls Gabe Moretti, a family member managing MacCorp Wineries in Italy. Gabe breaks into the museum, reviews the security tape, and discovers Aislinn found a Celtic brooch inside an artifact and disappeared in a fog. Now the clan must figure out where she went.
Aislinn Kennedy is immersed in a challenging project in Rome. While examining a white marble steatopygous from 4500 BC, she discovers an ancient brooch hidden inside the fertility figure. The brooch has a stunning bloodstone in the center engraved with a Gaelic chant. When she reads the chant aloud, she is immediately surrounded by a peat-smelling fog that takes her on a whirligig trip through space.
When she emerges from the fog, she’s in New York City in 1896, where she befriends banker Solomon Loeb, who introduces her to Police Commissioner Teddy Roosevelt. No sooner does she accept a job to work as Roosevelt’s secretary than she is reunited with Tavis, rekindling feelings they had for each in high school. Aislinn is ready to go home, but they can’t leave until they find three mysterious objects, which are also being hunted by an ancient, evil enemy set on destroying the MacKlenna Clan. It is possible the objects can’t be found, even with the expert help of two world-renowned archaeologists. And if they can’t be found, the members of the clan will never be safe again. This story contains violence, sex, and profanity.

Good Story, I Guess
I have every one of the Brooch books, and have listened to a number of them twice. The day this book came out on audio I purchased it. Every other book in the series I gave 5's to, all across the board, but this one I just can't. The story is 90% engaging but it appears the series is beginning to take a slow turn to "modern day" political issues that I find ridiculous. Also, it's like the author has decided to write more in the style of the Outlander series author-just toooo much T&A. My imagination works just fine, I don't need all the graphic details, especially since James Collen is going to, apparently, be a major character in the next book.
I hope the remaining books will be as good as the previous ones but I understand that the characters are growing, aging, and have expanding families, and likely the remaining books will be more futuristic (rather than historical) science fiction. As a history buff that is what has been so enjoyable, reading such creative stories about Abe Lincoln, Thomas Jefferson, Teddy Roosevelt, Wild Bill Hickok, Susan B. Anthony, etc. If the series is going to transition into science fiction and aliens, this is likely the last book I'll be reading in the series, which makes me very sad.

My favorite so far!
I got a little confused with the characters, they’ve gotten so complex and so many. Of all the books in the series, I have loved this one, the most. It is more complex and detailed than the other stories. I am in awe of Catherine Lawrie Logans artistry can you give us one more please?

Terrific…except
KLL has done it again with great history, suspense, time travel, and excitement. But, I miss the clean people with elegance and charm. There have begun to be way to much swearing, and the sex a little too much a part of the story with words that I don’t find in polite company. And, please, don’t put JC into a different sexual orientation at this late date. Introducing people as gay is cool, it worked for Ted. But, JC has been around for a bunch of books. Why change that now? If we could get more class like Elliot and his wife, Teddy, and a few others of the older generation that would be nice.

Rock between a wall and hard place
The series is amazing! However, this installment isn’t as good as the others. The plot was great and the history on point like all the others, but when you start changing essential character details this late in a series it’s a little hard to swallow. I really wish the author would have left JC’s sexual orientation alone. Changing it now seems to be an attempt to cater to a specific audience and we had that with Evelyn and with Trainer Ted and now Isabella as well. I hope the author doesn’t intend to turn the rest of the series into a woke politically correct mess. With all that said I do hold out hope for future installments in the series.

Love the series
I love the series. The narrators are good, and the storyline has all the elements it needs. Love, history, time travel, good, evil, mystery…
It’s disappointing that James Cullen’s sexual orientation appears to be changing for the next book. If he had been presented that way from the beginning, it would be different. But the readers have fallen in love with him just as he is and to throw a curveball at that this far into the series is disenchanting. It messes with the character’s traits that have been built in the reader’s mind. I think things like that need to be introduced at the beginning, when the character is introduced. It worked great for Evelyn and Trainer Ted.

Great Series
I have loved the series, because the time travel, history, true love, good versus evil. The storylines are always great and not rushed. I'll wait to get the next book, I hate when authors rush and the book suffers for it. the language is over the top, and profanity could be curbed back. I worked in the ER and never heard so much cursing. I hope the author is not bending to the PC thing and amending JC's sexual orientation to play towards a particular group. this makes me sad. He was one of my favorite characters from the start.

Cautionary Tale
Love the books so far but I fear future books are going to become too political. Please tell me we are not transitioning from history and family to climate change, woke, & other. I can watch the news for that.

History
still hate what James Cullen went through & I don’t like the insinuations about his sexual preference! I think this turn in the book doesn’t match what we previously new about him!
The rest of the book is great!! Except bad language. I hope that is cleared up in the next book. I love the history in all the books!!

Just OK
Too much going here…felt long. Got a bit boring as it felt like the story was dragged out.
