Genius
Michael Crichton never lets down, from Jurassic Park to ER, a wonderful Story, from the accurate scientific content to the interesting and loveable characters he designs.

Dodgson! We've got Dodgson here...
This is a fantastic sequel to Jurassic Park! Great technical discussions, a fun, exciting story, (which had minor flaws, as other reviewers have pointed out), but it's about dinosaurs!! If you can suspend your disbelief when it comes to the dinosaurs, then why harp on the character's flaws? Go with it!
My brother got this for me when it first came out, and I loved it so much, I have since read almost all of Crichton's other novels. And if you have seen the movie, please don't let its lousiness detract you. This novel is not like the movie at all. And it's got Dodgson, a much better villain than the 25 Marlboro men and Hammond's nephew that were in the movie,(and nowhere in the book.) With all due respect Mr.Spielberg, exactly which parts of this book did you actually read?
Scott Brick, you are the man, please do an unabridged version of Jurassic Park, so I can enjoy an audiobook of the only Crichton novel that is possibly better than this one.

So much better than the movie
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
This book is nothing like the movie. After finishing the book i saw the movie again and maybe 5% of the book was used in the movie. Not even the major plot is the same.
If you liked the first movie and the first book definitely read this book. It is very detailed and keeps the listener interested all the way through

A little disappointing, to be honest.
If your favorite part of Jurassic Park was Malcom’s long, pretentious, pseudoscience rants, then this is the perfect book for you!
If your favorite part of Jurassic Park was people being attacked by dinosaurs then you will be disappointed.

Diving into the Lost World
I am finding this audio book to be intriguing. I have seen some mediocre reviews of Michael Crichton's work, but I definitely do not agree. If you enjoy science fiction and fantasy, jump on in as I did. Even though the book was published in 1996 it has not become outdated and I have found it to be far better than the Jurassic Park movies.
I listen to this while I am driving. The narrator reads clearly and smoothly. His voice is easy to listen to, and his tone is excellent.
Definitely a great listen!

I wish the MOVIE was just like the book!
What made the experience of listening to The Lost World the most enjoyable?
Everything about this story was fabulous! It was a "page turner", pardon the pun, but you never wanted to pause this book! I am a paleo-geologist and have been in love with the Jurassic series since the movie came out in 1993. I finally now have finished the Lost World and the movie would have been so much better if it actually followed the book. The story line, the characters, and everything involved with this book was spot on!
Who was your favorite character and why?
All of the characters were very well written and it is a shame that in the movie they COMPLETELY left out Richard Levine... He was such a main character, I do not know that they were thinking!
What about Scott Brick’s performance did you like?
Fantastic!! So easy to listen too and follow!! Great job!!
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Absolutely!!! But couldn't because of the length, but it kept you involved the whole time! "Page turner"
Any additional comments?
Read/listen to this book! You will not regret it!

Ridiculous
I have always liked most of Crichton's books. They are well researched and fun to read(listen) to. This one is seriously flawed. I guess it helps the story to make the dinosaurs have human characteristics so I can live with that. What is unacceptable is having the characters attacked and not giving any notice to it in the interactions between the characters. It is just stupid to have someone tossed off a ship then found by the others and no one is appalled or makes a comment. Will probably finish this but only to see if it gets any worse. Crichton's later works are better. Don't bother with this unless you just want to laugh at the story line.

So different to the movie!
I know I shouldn't compare the books to the movies but in this case it was me watching the movie before reading the book! I read book 1 years ago but never did read this! These movies are among my favourite so it was with eagerness that I started this. I was so surprised by how different it is to the movie (I supposed I shouldn't be too surprised because nearly ever movie is different to the book!!) but delighted also, because I loved this one! Even if you've read the book, I'd recommend giving the audio a go!
Scott Brick was once again great! He really knows how to tell the story and how to bring the listener in. I'm so glad he narrated this one too.

Great Read,
I thought the narrator was kinda just too plain. He did vary the voices between characters, but I felt like the changes should have been more drastic, or at least noticeable.
Overall I found the story both very interesting, and very captivating. As a stand alone book I found it to be quite good from beginning to end. Having read the first book, I listened to this thinking of it as more of a sequel and found it to be lacking. Other than borrowing a few characters and reusing the familiar companies and locations, it really did nothing to follow up the first book. In fact, I would say that knowing the events of the first book only gave me 'inside knowledge' during one 5min segment of the story. Even then the details provided were more than enough to understand what the reader needed to to continue the story.
But still, as its own book and story, I found it near impossible to put down. From the moment I got going, I couldn't stop listening. I even went as far at to listen to it secretly as I worked a few long shifts.
As a final note I feel I must admit that I could very well be somewhat bias, as I do love the movie series. With that said both this book and it's predecessor, Jurassic Park, are nothing like the movies.
I would recommend to anyone over 13.
The end.

Enjoyable Book
The book is sooo much better than the movie, don't know why they changed the story so drastically. I have listened to the abridged audiobook and got this one to see what was missing. The answer is quite a bit. Some interesting sections were omitted from the abridged, but also the wordy explanations of dinosaurs, theories on evolution and I could go on. These tend to be the sections I skim through so I certainly didn't miss the theorizing in the abridged.
Scott Brick is a very good narrator, but I have to say, Anthony Heald was superb in the abridged, so Scott falls a bit short, but as my headline indicates, still very enjoyable.

Should have stayed lost
What a waste of a sequel. Crichton loses the mistique and wonder that was so beautifully crafted in the park. Nothing against the performance, one can only do so much with this yawnfest. Ian Malcom is possibly the most self absorbed, obnoxious wind bag ever written. I could have let it slide as character development but then Crichton adds Levine an equally shallow, bloated wind bag. The two of them spend half the book trolling everything. One has to wonder if Crichton only wrote this book to present his theory on how humanity is worse than the astroid that killed the dinosaurs... no wait now we have to sit through an hour long dialogue explaining that maybe but not really but could be but we theorize that it very well might not be.... aghhh!! The other characters amount to doe eyed dimwitts that I imagined staring blankly at the two protagonists, yawning and looking at their watches, while they get lectured to in the most condescending tone, praying for the dinosaurs to eat them. The most interesting character is the antagonist and his development boils down to the occasional curse thrown at his henchmen. He, along with the suspense / action in this book, appear for about an hour of the total fifteen. I found myself not caring one little bit what happened to these characters and I was so disappointed. Could have been something special but I think something got ... wait for it ... lost ... ha do you like what I did there? Don't waste your money.

Viel besser als der Film!
Bin ein großer Fan des etwas unverschämten Levine.
Malcolms Erklärungen könnte ich Stunden lang zu hören.
Der Sprecher ist wie immer klasse.

pedantic
I finished, so I guess it was not that bad. I think that both the cadence of reading and the way science and scientists were portraited were extremely pedantic.
the author mix a lot of misinformation and conjecture with real scientific discoveries.
The movie is better. that's a first!

an inferior book (compared to jurassic park)
while the action is good, some of the theories put forward by the author show a lack of understanding of some scientific fields. the last speech is especially egregious in that regard.

A mix of scientific mystery and dark action.
Check it out if you like the movies. It's totally different. Goes into scientific details.
