Description
A mystery, a love story, and a search through a shadowy past. Two strangers unite in this novel of family secrets by international bestselling author Marc Levy, the most read contemporary French author in the world.
When London journalist Eleanor-Rigby Donovan receives an anonymous letter alluding to a crime committed by her deceased mother, her life is turned upside down. It points her to a bar on the Baltimore Harbor, where she finds a stranger who has received the same mysterious letter about his own mother. Together, Eleanor-Rigby and this young man, George-Harrison Collins, embark on a quest through the shadowy past of the Stanfields, a moneyed Maryland family full of unimaginable secrets. These secrets will transport them back decades, across continents, and to a mysterious crime long buried…until now.

Romance, Mystery, Resolution—Great Listen
I love Marc Levy. This book is complicated and somewhat convoluted but if you stick with it, you get a rewarding story with a good ending and a surprise twist. Eleanor-Rigby is the main character in the story. Her mother died recently and she, her twin brother, and younger sister all are coming to grips with the loss. Her father who loved his wife more than anything only knows her story from when she returned to England and they married. Now, a letter is received by Eleanor-Rigby talking about a mystery and telling her to not tell anyone about the letter. There is angst on the part of Eleanor because she doesn’t want to keep a secret so she tells her younger sister, Maggie. Maggie says it is a crackpot and to forget about it but Eleanor is a journalist and want to find out more. Then she receives a 2nd letter telling her to go to Baltimore and to go to a restaurant at exactly 7 pm. That’s when things get interesting. A young man shows up who got the exact same two letters so obviously the two of them were intended to meet. His name is George-Harrison. Obviously, their mothers both were fans of the Beatles. The story is a love story and a mystery. There are several twists and turns but no blood shed. There is some sex and some swear words but nothing that an adult would find offensive. I have read this author’s works and love every one. I also listened to the audible version and the two narrators truly bring the story to life. Stina Nielsen is the female narrator. Braden Wright is the male. Both are excellent.

Not ready for it to end!
After two absolute stinkers - I listened to this & those two via Kindle Unlimited, not always a literary treasure trove- this book was gold! While part of a mystery was a bit too easy to solve (perhaps it was meant to be), I still literally gasped at another.
A book is great if the reader misses the characters when it ends. I miss these characters already. A bit of editing would have helped the beginning, it starts a bit slow, but do be patient. I love the different times in history woven together, especially the bit during WWII, and thinking about 1980, when I was little. The readers were wonderful, really enjoyable.

Skipped to the end.
The first chapter was okay, but a slow decline from there. The dialogue between the characters was unrealistic, using words and phrases that were not conversational. The story line was intriguing, just wasn’t presented well.

Predictable and clichéd
A Predictable and clichéd story, but engaging enough to finish. Wouldn't buy another Marc Levy novel.

Addicting
This was enchanting. The characters were well developed. The narration was enjoyable. The plot was unique and intriguing. Well worth the credit. This is the first I’ve listened to of his but it won’t be the last.

A great little mystery.
It took me a bit to get into it. Once the threads gathered and began to form the story, I was all in. I adored the characters and the cross continent plot. It was a fun read.

Unexpectedly wonderful!
When this book began, it took me a little bit to get into it. I wasn't crazy about the hopping around initially for the character builds and relationship profiles - plus, I didn't love the lesbian relationship at the front. I would likely not have chosen to read it if I'd known. In any event, about 1/3rd of the way, I absolutely enjoyed the balance of the book when more characters came in. I think the author did a nice job of framing each transition of timelines -that is tricky to follow sometimes. My favorite character is Michel! hah- he was hysterical I thought. Good read all in.
