In the year 2120, the human race teeters on the brink of extinction as a disease known as M6-27 sweeps mercilessly across the globe, leaving a trail of death and decay in its wake. Only a small group known as the First Liners are immune, Sandra Nkosi among them.
Desperate to escape, she seizes on the chance to join the Endocarp Program. Transported to an underground bunker, she is assigned to a stasis chamber where she will spend the next 30 years. When she is brought out of hibernation, she and her fellow First Liners will shoulder the enormous weight of rebuilding society.
However, when Sandra awakens, she is completely alone, the station is in ruins, and she is trapped underground. Even more troubling, she has mysteriously become pregnant. With only her well-honed survival skills, a mongrel dog, and an outmoded AI to guide her, she begins the arduous trek to the surface.
What awaits is a cruel regime whose top priority is hunting her down.
