    Description

When the owner of Polly's Cake Shop announces her retirement, the Fethering residents start to worry about the loss of this popular amenity. Alarmed by rumours that the café might become a Starbucks, a group clubs together to form an action committee.

The plan is that Polly's should become a community venture managed and run by volunteers from the village. Roped in to help, Jude finds the committee meetings fraught with petty power struggles, clashing personalities and monstrous egos.

Matters take a turn for the worse when she and Carole come across a badly decomposed body on Fethering beach - and uncover a link to Polly's.

    Okay

This is the 17th story of the series and I have enjoyed each book. Jude and Carole make a good investigative team. They are very intelligent women who complement each other well. However, I found this book a bit lacking. It lacked the humor that has been in the books of the past, as well as, more interaction between Carole and Jude. Carole was off dealing with her son for a good portion of the book. The time between Jude and Carole felt rushed and underdeveloped. It's still an okay book and I will read the next one.

    Got bored

I tried twice to get interested in this installment of the Fethering Series. This is the 13th book I have listened to, and have enjoyed all but this one. I gave up after 3 hours. What annoyed me most was the interaction between the members of the "action committee". Just too much detail.
I will move on to the next one, though. "The Liar in the Library".
Not all of the books in this series are available in audiobook format.

Not my favorite of the series.

Jude and Carolyn don’t spend enough time, together, sorting out crimes. Carolyn & Jude are both preoccupied with personal or business commitments

    Pretty good! I recommend it!

This is the only book so far in the series in which Carol and/or Jude do not have their life threatened. I hope that that is not a spoiler for anyone, lol! The story keeps you guessing as to who done what and why and how it’s going to end. As usual, there are quirky characters that help keep the serious situations on the lighter side. I was totally absorbed in the story. The author is such a good narrator! Read the series in order.

    I like Simon Brett!

This Fethering theme is getting a bit tired. But his performance is still great! Lots of healthy sinicism.

love Simon, but the Paris novels are better

I love Simon's reading that's why this is great. the story is ok, but the Charles Paris novels are much better, characters stronger, witicisms cleverer.
