Narrator Roger Clark's distinguished performance enhances the theatrical mood of this story as Fiona MacDermot, the fiery cousin of an Irish earl, marries a wealthy English duke despite her distaste for him, all so she can continue to help the starving people under her care. She finds out too late that Neville Percival, Duke of Anglesey, is just as penniless as she is. Clark's buttery voice and careful pacing will have listeners swooning as Fiona and Neville are brought together by a dangerous turn of events, and the two discover a passion for each other that shocks them.

Neville Perceval, the bankrupt Duke of Anglesey, has been burdened since youth with more responsibility than one man should handle. He has finally accepted that he needs to marry a wealthy, gracious lady who will ease his burdens and smooth his political path.
Fiona MacDermot, the rebellious, untamed cousin of an Irish earl, has the freedom and independence Neville has never known. Like the duke, she needs cash to help starving villagers and orphans. Unfortunately, she'd rather earn a living than have anything to do with useless men, and the politicians she knows all belong at the wrong end of a rope.
But when the duke is nearly beaten to death, and Fiona's looms are lost to a murdering thief, their lives are entangled in ways that threaten their futures. Lust shouldn't factor into their destinies, but it does, and now they have to find their dreams together, or die trying.

Absolutely loved it!
Great story, intriguing plot and detailed characters. The narrator was excellent and I could vividly see everything she was describing, from people to buildings in the countryside.

Really?
I keep reading books from this series, thinking they will get better, but really? The hero and heroine in this one are SO unlikeable. The hero is borderline abusive. Too many redundant sex scenes. The author seems to use them as filler. Jesus, I was so bored with it.
The narrator sounded kinda like Alan Rickman, so that wasn’t awful, but not great either. I think ’m done trying and wasting my credits.
What a disappointment.

too many winds & turns..but loved their love story
Didn't like the start ...the Duke going to get Fiona in lreland...that was too obvious! it was as if Michael & Blash we're trying to set them up.
But loved how the love grew between them and their interactions were cute! fell in love with the Duke character not sure why...need to listen to it again!
narrator was good with all those characters involved!!!

Characters from last book
Plot develops with characters from previous book in this series. Female is a spitfire with humorous interactions with Male, but plot was not as intriguing as previous books. Still a good read, just rated a bit lower when compared to first two books.

Of all the books out of the series this is the one that I like the best. It captures all the previous characters from the other books and melds them into a really very good storyline.

Excellent book!
I highly recommend this for pleasantly narrated intense, but often hilarious book, and the series in which it is, to readers who love well written historical romance. Enjoy!
