For Maleigh, starting over at a new school after her family moves to Port Bell, Maine, presents more challenges than usual for the typical teenage girl. Deaf and reliant on sign language to communicate, she fears making friends will prove impossible.
When she meets Gearden, an attractive but quiet rugby player, Maleigh experiences something at once exhilarating and frightening: She can hear his thoughts, and he can hear hers. As she attempts to cope with this strange phenomenon, Maleigh struggles to trust Gearden and her new friend Brianna, both of whom seem to harbor secrets.
As Maleigh grows closer to her new friends, she learns that nothing is quite as it seems in Port Bell, and her own life might be at risk. Now she must decide who to trust before it’s too late while uncovering extraordinary truths about her new friends...and about herself.
