Description
There's something going bump on the Metropolitan line, and Sergeant Jaget Kumar knows exactly whom to call.

Only it's more than going 'bump'. Traumatised travellers have been reporting strange encounters on their morning commute, with strangely dressed people trying to deliver an urgent message. Stranger still, despite calling the police themselves, within a few minutes the commuters have already forgotten the encounter - making the follow-up interviews rather difficult.
So with a little help from Abigail and Toby the ghost hunting dog, Peter and Jaget are heading out on a ghost hunting expedition.
Because finding the ghosts and deciphering their urgent message might just be a matter of life and death.

Delightful writing and narration
This author and narrator team make the Peter Grant series my favorite audio book series. The writing is imaginative - with twisty plots and characters with depth and layers.
The narration is fabulous, with interesting change-ups in pacing, fantastic and recognizable voices.
Ben Aaronovitch and Kobna Holdbrook-Smith do outstanding work. I always look forward to the next book and find listening to this series delightful.

Don't miss The Furthest Station
What do I love about this audiobook series? The vivid London landscape, the digressions about architecture, the musicality, the diverse backgrounds of all the characters (not one character is a cardboard stand in -- even if we're not told their whole story), the details of a police procedural, Peter's efforts to apply science to magic, the dashing Nightingale, the rich context of history, class, and region... and I could go on. There could not be a better narrator for this series than Kobna Holdbrook-Smith. If you haven't read the series, start at the beginning and don't skip this installment-- even if it's a novella, it's a wonderful listen. I can't wait for the next full length novel. Thank you, Mr. Aaronovich, now back to work!

Solid and fun, not much plot
Fun novella in the Rivers of London series, this time with the world of ghosts partially explored and some expansion of Abigail's studies as she seeks to be taken on as an apprentice. Abigail has appeared before (a relative of Peter Grant), and Grant unwisely told her that if she passed a certain test in Latin he would teach her magic. Well, as Grant and Nightingale look into a suspected kidnapping (based on information from two dissolving ghosts), we also see Abigail's dedication to her studies. I can just see the Folly's denizens growing by one in some book soon and was happy for a mostly happy ending to the kidnapping case.

I love this narrator
Short but still fantastic. I love Aaronovitch's writing style. He gives Peter a great sense of sarcasm and humor. This time he deals with ghosts and another river god. Quite good especially with the perfect narration by Hobna Holdbrook-Smith.

Very well done all around.
Loved it as usual but as good as it is, I know it's a short but I miss a chat with Peter's Parents all though it was nice to have more of Abigail. I'd love to see another series with just Abigail and I don't particularly like children in books but I'd make an exception for her.

great continuity
I loved this installment of this series. Warm, and eventful it delighted and entertained. I am looking forward to the next book in this series

I am very picky.
I started and quit 4 other audio books in the past two days. I have no patience for marginal readers or clunky writing. Finished this one in one day. Completely enthralling, couldn't put it down. Kobna Holdbrook-Smith an amazing reader.

I enoyed this
I read this novella out of sequence, after book six and another novella, The October Man. It didn't make a big difference. Station brings us closer to Abigail, Peter's cousin who is also a magician in training. She sees ghosts and Peter takes her along when it seems the ghosts of London are disappearing. I did enjoy this little departure from the larger arc.

Peter Grant Novelle mit Pfiff - und Geistern
Nein, das ist kein neuer Teil der Peter Grant-Reihe, auch wenn es sich so anfühlt. „The Furthest Station“ ist eine Novelle, vom selben Charme und Witz, mit denselben herrlichen Figuren besetzt, aber eben kürzer und ohne die Haupthandlung der Reihe fortzusetzen (kein „Faceless Man“ diesmal, Leute). Unhöfliche Geister mit kryptischen Botschaften versetzen die Passagiere der Londonder U-Bahn in Unruhe. Das Problem: Kurz nach der Begegnung vergessen alle Zeugen, dass sie überhaupt stattgefunden hat und was die Geister gesagt haben. Das macht das Ermitteln für Zauberlehrling und Police Constable Peter Grant nicht einfacher.
Wer ein Faible für Peter’s Freundin, die Flussgöttin Beverly, hat, kommt diesmal besonders auf seine Kosten. Das englische Hörbuch liest, nein, VERZAUBERT Kobna Holdbrook-Smith einmal mehr mit seinem Feuerwerk an Stimmen, Dialekten und Akzenten. Unbedingt hören!

Sehr kurz, zu teuer
Gute Geschichte, wirkt aber so als ob sie noch nicht fertig wäre. Haupterzählstrang ist prima, aber die diversen Nebengeschichten, die es sonst gibt, fehlen. Ein ganzes Guthaben fand ich auch nicht gerechtfertigt dafür.
Erzählter wie immer sehr gut.

great reading - weak story
as always Kobna‘s reading is superb but the story...???...really Ben??? for this copy and paste sequel the 3 hours are - although only half of the previous Peter Grant adventures - too long and ... here I say it ... uninspired and boring. I hope for a „real“ next time.

Going all the way
I wasn‘t all that interested in the story, I purely got this to listen to Kobna Holdbrook-Smith. He delivered.
Novella. Ghosts on the Metropolitan Line. The story was good, if not terribly exciting overly suspenseful. I had a few laughs.

Nice to listen to while waiting for the next book.
I like the little explanations for Sgt. Reynolds and Abigail's growing part in the story. I'm curious if this is going to be continued in the next book.
