Description

In his acclaimed national best seller, A Fighter's Heart, Sam Sheridan took listeners with him as he stepped through the ropes into the dangerous world of professional fighting. From a muay Thai bout in Bangkok; to Rio, where he trained with jiu-jitsu royalty; to Iowa, where he matched up against the toughest in MMA, Sheridan threw himself into a quest to understand how and why we fight.

In The Fighter's Mind, Sheridan does for the brain what his first book did for the body. To uncover the secrets of mental strength and success, Sheridan interviewed dozens of the world's most fascinating and dangerous men, including celebrated trainers Freddie Roach and Greg Jackson; champion fighters Randy Couture, Frank Shamrock, and Marcelo Garcia; ultrarunner David Horton; legendary wrestler Dan Gable; and many more. What are their secrets? How do they stay committed through years of training, craft a game plan, and adjust to the realities of the ring? How do they project strength when weak and remain mentally tough despite incredible physical pain?

A fascinating book, bursting at the seams with incredible stories and insight, The Fighter's Mind answers these questions and many more.

A Magnificient Perspective

A definite read if you have ever wondered what "mental" toughness is. It was much more relatable than I expected, another great piece from Mr. Sheridan.

highly entertaining and interesting

While the gems to write down are few and far between, the book caught me and never let me go. It was willing to leave questions unanswered because the greats disagree, so he did his best to show both perspectives as they are. Loved it.

Great insights but far and in between, and...

The worst narration, in my opinion. The narrator tries so hard to balance grit and machismo of a fighter with some faux depth of a bad writer. I found his dramatic pace and intonation so off putting it actually made a massive dent in my enjoyment of this book. Otherwise, yeah, it's an interesting gritty read into the minds of fighters, but it also tries too hard to make a groundbreaking insight out of mundane observations (or maybe that was the narration again?)

Info is WAY better than the narrator

This book is great. Insightful. Meaningful. Poignant.

I had to regularly remind myself that Sam is a much better writer than the narrator was representing.

R is Pronounced H

Great book and performance. But it's very distracting when the narrator butchers the Gracie names.

Solid Content

I really liked this book. The stories and concepts and thought processes shared by so many top combat sportsmen are great! My only complaint is the narrator mispronounced EVERY Brazilian's name.
