Description

They believed humans were weak - until her.

The aliens ruling over the galaxy knew humans were compatible with their species, but they never expected to find a match quite so perfect for their Emperor.

Lena should have been nothing more than an incubator - she was supposed to have the Emperor's child, and then get back to her life.

But then, they made the mistake of threatening that child...

The Emperor's Mate is a standalone sci-fi romance following three stories - previously published as Rise, Rage, and Rule between 2015 and 2016. It has been re-edited. Expect swear words and some adult situations.

3 Short Stories in 1

Sci-fi romance is not my preferred genre, but I was pulled into this book by the awesome narration. I cannot believe how many voices both Tor Thom and Charley Ongel were able to perform for the numerous characters in the book. The characters in The Emperor's Mate are linked through the main couple of Lena (Human) and her mate Calden (Alien Emperor). Their story is the majority of this audiobook. Cedric (Alien) and Willow are the second story and Alec (the wild prince, son of Lena & Calden) and Ava are the third story. Each story is original and a standalone. yet they fit together to give a bigger picture of their planet.
I enjoyed the story of Lena the most, but the Scottish accents in the 3rd story were my favorite. This was my first listen of a book by May Sage and I would try more. I'll definitely listen to more books performed by Tor Thom and Charley Ongel as their voices paint such vivid pictures in my mind.

Loved it!

The author had a great imagination and Tor Thom with Charley Ongel was fantastic narrating this one. The Emperor was cold and detached and he never made snap decisions. They were the Claydons that produced their own children, but lately they were either insane or they didn’t live lone. That is why human females were brought in and called breeders. They called the humans suckers because they believed they sucked the earth dry. Then Lena came into their site. She was a perfect mate for the Emperor. Lena had a child by the Emperor and they had a son named Eric. Things got complicated on earth for them and the Emperor and Lena worked together to protect him. Eric get a story at the end. Don’t miss this one.

A little sci fi fun!

This is my first book by May Sage, and I have to say I am pleasantly surprised. I am not a science fiction listener, so I started with some trepidation. The story was much more than just sci fi, but the finding of your true mate. What I really got out of this story, is that no matter whether you are alien or human, whether you are friends first or you bump into them on the street, your true match is out there. The imaginative world that Sage creates with the Craydons is vividly written, so it is easy to picture and the characters are engaging. It's interesting to see how each couple in each part finally gets together and finds their true mate. Out of the three parts, I enjoyed Calden and Lena's story the most. Lena proves herself to be a strong, smart woman and a wonderful mother, stopping at nothing to protect her child.Love seeing the mom in her come alive. Cedar in part 2 was an very interesting character and his uncertainty is endearing. I did like seeing Alec grown up in part 3, and the appearance of Lena as well.

Narrated by Tor Thom and Charley Ongel, this team brought the story to life. There are many characters, and Tor Thom gave each man his own voice. From old to young, American to Scottish, he nailed each one and let you know by each finesse of the voice. Charley Ongel shined in this narration. I love how she gave each woman a strength through their story, Lena is a fierce warrior, Ava a little hesitant but gaining confidence and Willow some wisdom with age. The performances are wonderful.

Incredible world, great characters 🔥 and awesome narration!

Science fiction is generally not my thing, but this story completely drew me in. The love stories inside of the sci-fi drew me in, but the world building was phenomenal. I felt transported into another world and I really liked it. To call it vivid is putting it mildly. The characters were also all amazing and interesting, but my favorite was Lena. She’s just a badass and her strength was one of her best attributes. Who doesn’t love a strong heroine? This book was different, incredibly, well done, and fun! Add to that some steam and it’s most definitely worth a listen.

Duo Tor Thom and Charley Ongel did an awesome job bringing these stories to life. Tor Thom was great giving so many different characters their own distinct voice or accent. Plus, him doing a Scottish accent was the best thing ever. Charley Ongel was just as great. I really liked the way she gave each female character their own special type of strength. Her voice can be soothing, lovely, yet fierce. Just like the characters. Overall a great, fun listen.

he Emperor's Mate

Tor Thom & Charley Ongel are an amazing narrating duo.

Each book they narrate draws you into the story. You cant help but keep listening just for the joy of it.

The narration is so vivid and real, you find yourself invested in the story and the journey of Calden and Lena.

World building by May Sage was good. It was easy to follow the events described in the book and paint a picture of the world we are in.

Tor and Charley narrated each situation to perfection.

Great book! I love how it skipped ahead to tell the stories of the characters mentioned that impacted the majority of the scenes. However, I think 40 years is a long time to wait for your soulmate to come around. That’s a bit unrealistic.

An intriguing romance in an imaginary world

This is the first time I read a May Sage book. I was not sure what to expect when I first started listening. I was pleasantly surprised at how easily the world and Aliens were to imagine. Ms. Sage vividly described every detail to bring the scene and characters to your minds eye. Although the book is a Sci-fi book, it is not overbearing and so farfetched that it is hard to relate to.

Lena and Calden was my favorite couple. I could relate to Lena and her motherly instincts. I loved following her growth from just a breeder to a mother. The way Calden found his mate, Lena, is like a matchmaking game, but with DNA. Calden, being a strong leader, was easily attracted to Lena, who was an equally strong woman.

Tor Thom and Charley Ongel are a perfect compliment to the story. Tor Thom distunguished the many male characters with ease. The different pitches and accents Mr Thom used were perfectly chosen for each character and how I would have imagined that character. Charley Ongel is a wonderful contrast to Mr Thom's deep baritone voice. Ms Ongel brought out each female character's attitude and emotion with her narration. Together, Mr Thom and Ms Ongel enhanced the story and created a movie within my mind's eye.
