La narratrice insupportable.
Elle massacre tous les mots étrangers, qu'elle prenne un accent prétendument français ou russe ou arabe, accents tous plus ridicules et incompréhensibles les uns que les autres.
J'ai préféré abandonner l'écoute pour acheter la version papier du livre
Par ailleurs, on n'attribuait pas, dans la France du XVIIIème siècle, pas plus que maintenant, le surnom de Charlot comme prénom ou nom de baptême, d'autant que c'est ainsi que l'on désignait le bourreau de Paris (famille des Sanson) précisément dès avant la Révolution et jusqu'à la moitié du XIXème siècle.
The story is fascinating.
The narrator atrocious.
She systematically butchers ALL foreign names, words or terms, no matter what ridiculous accent she tries to imitate. (French, Russian, Arab...)
I could not even make out the feminine French first name of the XVIIIth century héroïne, Mireille, as she pronounces it "Murray" !!!
It got so annoying that I gave up listening, returned the audio book, and bought the paper version.
It is also ludicrous and inacurate to choose Charlot as a name for a boy, in XVIIIth century France, just as it is nowdays. Charlot is slang for clown or jerk !
Charlot was used only as a nickname, the most famous being the executioneer of Paris (of the Sanson family), precisely some 50 years prior to the Révolution and until the mid-XIXth century... so this makes no sense !
