entertaining story
Lots of delightful twists and turns. It was nice to have Beau added to the character list and to see the story through his and Carrie's eyes.

Better
This short story was only dragged out by about 30%. It was at least one I listened to completely. Additionally, I didn’t even attempt to guess who done it. Mostly because I didn’t care. I was curious as to how we would get to the solution. Which is the reason this series is so painful. In an effort to explain who done it and how they did it the stories drag on. Of course and how Ellery can prove they did it. It makes a frequently painful journey. Too much gunk gets thrown around far too much babel is expelled in an effort to get to any point. This story was made overly complex by the ridiculous effort of attempting to keep the main female character in love with the male character. Had he really tricked and connived to do what he did to save her he would most certainly have lost her. Beau’s needless effort to fake being Ellery would have been such a turn off. The detective agency was Ellery Queen Inc therefore Ellery did not need to nor could he alone perform all of the functions of the business. The request for him to personally alone do the work by a phony would not be binding. Even if the person making the contract had been the real person would have bound him to need to perform all. He merely needed to head the investigation. Ellery’s illness prevented him from doing more than he did. So reasonably Beau acting as his legs was legitimate and would have been even if Ellery was healthy. The killer would not have been able to leave no trace of his actions. First the hands and clothing of the accused would have shown she had not fired the gun. No gun power residue. She didn’t have time to change her clothes nor was she wearing gloves. Remember her finger prints. The distance from the victim from and the angle of trajectory would also have frustrated the polices case. The police would not have simply dismissed the attempts on her life. And they did not considering they used them as motive’s. You get the pictures. The search for the real conspirator was the story. The waste of time and effort with the accused was just that a needless waste. Cut all of that out and the story moves along better.

Superb!
While the performance of this book was superb, I noticed one small difference in the pronunciation of sergeant Velies name. According to the television shows, the sergeant’s name is pronounced VEE LEE... just thought this wonderful performer might like to know!😊
