    Description

The searing follow-up to 2018’s most celebrated fantasy debut – The Poppy War.

    Rin is on the run....

Haunted by the atrocity she committed to save her people, addicted to opium, and driven by the murderous commands of Phoenix, the vengeful god who has blessed Rin with her fearsome power.

Rin’s only reason for living is to get revenge on the traitorous Empress who sold her homeland, Nikan, to her enemies.

With no other options, Rin joins forces with the powerful Dragon Warlord, who has a plan to conquer Nikan, unseat the Empress, and create a new Republic. She throws herself into his war.

After all, making war is all she knows how to do....

    Better than The Poppy War

    I thoroughly enjoyed this book.
Whilst i enjoyed the poppy war i found it to be a little disjointed and unfocused. The Dragon Republic rectified these issues for me as the story flowed better and was thematically tighter.
I particularly enjoyed the way Rin's character developed in this book and the greater depth given to some of the other characters.
The plot is great with some very interesting political machinations and character relationships.
This is the best book of any genre that i"ve read in a long time and so much better than what the vast majority other fantasy authors have to offer.
    Very highly recommended.

When is the next one coming out?!?

Again hardly slept to listen to it in (almost) one sitting! Great plot twists and turns, and the end left me gutted!!

    excellent second book.

Now I am eager for the third book. if it's half as good as the book 2, then this Saga will be memorable.

    Everybody is an idiot

Everybody’s arrogance is up to 11. If they are not arrogant, they are naive beyond belief. The protagonist is one of those. She is running headfirst into trouble after trouble without slowing down. Rin always goes with the first bet option and never thinks about what other opportunities she has with her powers. She never seeks out any information on her . All the information she gets is what is presented to her. I would not go so far as to call her a passive protagonist, but she is getting close. The writing also got worse, but that would need a little too much detail to describe. The voice actress is still good. no complaints there.

Unfortunately Rin is still as "smart" as she was..

Audio performance was on point as in the first book. The only problem I had with it was the pronunciation of Sinegard... in the first book it was proununced with an "I" like the word "Information" but in this part as an "Igh" like the word "sight", it was quit annoying...
Regarding the story: I was hoping that the main character would learn and evolve but unfortunately she remained as she was in the first book. She still has no mind of her own and does only things that she is manipulated in doing. Evan after two books I still don't care about any of the side character. Towards the end I had a feeling like the author just wanted to wrap things up asap so she didn't even bother with proper description of some scenes, what I found to be quit confusing. This book has its highs and lows, unfortunately the lows drag it down to much. At one point I was even considering a 1 star rating but then I realized that it would not do it justice. Even now as I rate the story a 2 with an overall 3 star rating I feel that it is not fair because there were moments where I really enjoyed it and I see so much potential, plus the writing style I find to be enjoyable as well, but the hype is just too much compared to the end result. After two books I still trust the author and give the last part a chance to prove itself.
