Description

A wildly exciting journey through a world remade, The Divide combines real characters with horrifically realized creations, pitting the worst of human nature against the strength of family. Equal parts action, horror, and moving drama that only Jeremy Robinson can pull off.

When the divide is crossed...

No one remembers how the Divide was created. The miles-deep and miles-wide chasm has existed for hundreds of years, protecting what remains of humanity from the Golyat: a creature whose shadow moves across the horizon at sunset.

Davina, daughter of Jesse, is a shepherd. She spends her days guiding herds of deer through the forests of New Inglan, protecting them from predators, herding them away from the Divide, and ensuring the tribe of Essex has meat when needed. While many shepherds die in their first year - from the elements, from injury, or in the jaws of a wolf - Davina is resilient.

Having just slain a mountain lion, Davina returns to her village to discover a hunting party has been sent out in search of the Modernists, a group fascinated with the past, the technology that once filled the world, and what lies beyond the Divide. To keep the Modernists from reaching the Divide's far side and revealing humanity's presence to the Golyat, the hunters will torture and kill them all. Including Davina's teenage son.

Davina strikes out, intending to ensure her son's death will be quick and without torture. Reaching the island of Boston first, Davina confronts the Modernists and finds herself incapable of taking her son's life. Captured by the enemies of Essex, she is transported across the Divide along with her son and the Modernists.

For the first time in 500 years, humanity steps foot on the Divide's far side. Stranded with the enemy, Davina must fight to keep them all alive, herding people instead of deer, while uncovering the truth about humanity's past and her connection to events that reshaped the world.

Robinson nails it again

Jeremy Robinson has a very specific talent. He is able to project a movie-like story directly into your minds eye.

The Chess Team and Project Nemesis sagas gifted us with action packed stories which moved at breakneck pace and with characters we will never forget. With these stand-alone novels (The Divide, Infinite, The Others, Alter, The Distance, etc) he tackles more unique concepts. We are being shown different possible presents and futures, none of them particularly hopeful and several of them apocalyptic. The one constant is the willingness of the human condition to fight, survive and overcome. The Divide is no different.

Set in a future where mankind is reduced to living in primitive tribes under the canopy of forests abiding by a law which prevents them from being noticed by the cause of their destruction. An evil so aggressive and powerful that it has survived for 500 years, waiting.

Without spoilers, which is very hard, you will absolutely love Robinson's usual Easter Eggs specifically if you have read his other works. Having been blessed with expert narration from Jeffrey Kafer and RC Bray for most of Robinson's work, I was very pleased with the performance by Christa Lewis. I think Christa nailed V's character. Top marks!

I really enjoyed this book. Hope he has a sequel soon. I could see a sequel with how things were left in the book.

A Must For Jeremy Robinson Fans

Having read everything Jeremy Robinson has written, this story is a must read. Without giving any spoilers, although this is a stand alone novel it is also tied to some of Robinson’s other works. It is not my new favorite as it is on its own, though it is definitely a unique and exciting read. For me, the revelations are what propel it from great to awesome.

Although I have never heard Christa Lewis before, she is an excellent choice for this novel. She tells a story well and has distinct character voices. I enjoyed her performance.

Impressive!

enjoyed the heck out of this book. Jeremy Robinson is quickly becoming one of my new favorites. First read infinity and the Others and loved them. Forgot about him for a while and then listened to Space Force, that was hilarious. This book was a pleasant surprise and like his other works, says more than just what's written on the page. I'd recommend this to anyone

Great Story!

I always enjoy a Jeremy Robinson story. All are unique, and bold in their plots. He’s not afraid to push the envelope and encourage his readers to suspend belief and follow him along on the latest adventure that he is weaving. Although I always enjoy the journey, like any writer, some I enjoy more than others. This one is a gem.

The characters are well wrought with a depth that is surprising in this kind of speculative fiction story. The main characters journey from living believing everything she had been taught, to thinking for herself and making decisions based on what she sees, is interesting to follow. The reader follows right along with her, as the details are laid out in front of us.

The tying together with other characters for his various series is vintage Robinson, and always fun. I gather these are called ‘Easter eggs’, and they are really a kick to run across.

This is a great story of a woman’s journey to be true to herself, and to those she loves, and to go beyond what she is told she is supposed to be. We can all apply it to our lives.

As I was reading this, the ‘Hunter’ series by Mercedes Lackey kept coming to mind. Although very different, both offer a very fresh perspective of the dystopian future, and are unique.

All in all, a really enjoyable, great read!

Another fun adventure from Robinson!

A fun, if sightly formulaic adventure that seems a tad familiar in places and requires a BIG grain of salt for some things to still work after 500 years, but the performance is really good and sometimes you just want a Robinson yarn.

Robinson's worlds collide

A dystopian adventure with intrigue, mystery, and monsters. How can you go wrong? Add thinly veiled references to numerous other books in the Robinson catalog and you have a novel that's nothing short of a crowd pleaser. A thrilling read that' nearly impossible to put down.
