    Description

    Vaults of Terra Book 3.

Separated from Inquisitor Cowl, Interrogator Spinoza hoists her crozius and sets to protecting what’s left of their organisation while continuing her quest for truth. But can she survive the dire straights she finds herself in, as she guards humanity from enemies within and without?

    Listen to it because....

Luce Spinoza comes into her own, with the weight of her lord’s fate sitting heavy on her shoulders, while pushing forward with their mission. With enemies closing in on all sides, she must choose a path for herself.

    The story:

The Throneworld is in turmoil, wracked by the opening of the Great Rift and the failure of the Astronomican. Inquisitor Erasmus Crowl, his mind and body ravaged by what he has seen in the Hollow Mountain, is missing, taking with him the clues to the conspiracy that has come to obsess him. Luce Spinoza, his interrogator, must choose whether to seek him out or defend her diminished realm from the many forces that still seek to destroy it. As enemies circle, Interrogator Spinoza enters a race against time to find the evidence she needs. But with the fate of humanity itself hanging in the balance, she must decide what lengths she is willing to go to in order to uncover the truth.

Written by Chris Wraight. Narrated by John Banks. Running time 10 hours, 30 minutes (approx).

    Why

I really enjoy listening to 40k novels as they flush out the universe. This story added nothing though it raised an issue that has been around since at least 5th edition and everyone finds out in a strange way at the end. Spoilers:
    Then everyone dies the end

    Takes a bit

Two thirds of this book sounds like an AI wrote it. I could complain about it, a lot, but I'm tired. Things don't get interesting until the final 4 hours, but wooo does it get better.
The retinue was always the worst part of the series, and that's the bulk of the book here. The plot is probably the worst of the three books. The shining star has always been the setting, which doesn't get it's due until the end, but it's fun.

    Good story / bad ending

It takes forever to actually get to the point, and then when it gets to the point it just suddenly stops. So it's a classic Warhammer book.

Another Great Vaults of Terra Story...

The story was kind of weird for me since I spaced out near the end of The Hollow Mountain. I don't know if its just me, but the start of this story plays out like the Confused Mr. Krabs meme, and the world finally stops spinning when all the main characters finally figure out what is going on. My timeline is all messed up since the events in the series aren't in order. I figured the title was eluding to something underground in the hive citys on Terra, but I was wrong. I enjoyed the plot on Luna and the segway back to the Custodians. Hopefully there will be another book to finish out this series of events.

    Not Bad

It was a good listening if you like this genre. Especially if you are in the car and stuck in the traffic, recommend!

    Uh.. movie/series/animation please?

Wow this series has just been amazing to say the least.. Chris Wraight is a Custodes fanboy, I can tell (so am I) and I can’t wait to see what else he adds to the vaults of terra series.. I really see a screen adaptation and it would be awesome if it were anime but anything would do so long as they didn’t divert much from the story. Definitely a true fan here.

    The end is nigh

An amazing addition to a great series. You will love this wayward inquisitor and his band of misfits as they constantly get in way over their heads.

Brilliant display of the theme of the 40k universe

No ending in this series, is a happy ending. At best, it's a staving of the worst, at worst? The players of the game are removed and their efforts, flavored by generally good intentions or self preservation, don't even matter.

it's been a beautiful three books and it sucked to get such a grim dark reminder that you could do everything right, only for it to be reduced to ashes. I know what I said, but read it anyway. It won't disappoint.

    Well written but unsatisfying ending

It’s fairly clear that the author wanted a plausible off ramp from having to continue writing these characters, which is mightily unfortunate, as I feel they’re really coming into their own. While the phrase “insult to injury” is too dramatic, it is none the less appropriately evocative of my feelings towards the epilogue - the message of which was “none of this or the last two books actually mattered.”

The audio performance was good, as always - if somewhat lacking in anything to make it great.

    fantastic

a great chapter in the story of Crowl and Spinoza, tying together a number of disparate threads in a way both thrilling and satisfying.

also, a special bit of praise for including eldar in a way that really helps lessen the usual paucity of representation in truly good 40k fiction. here as antagonists they manage to feel powerful and alien, without being worfs or Mary sues.

A can't miss book from one of BL's best.

    The Vaults of Terra series...

...getting better and better. Really grim dark story, unforseen horrors and additional background story about the events surrounding the primarchs return...

    Everything that makes Warhammer great

To be honest a lot of the more recent Black Library titles were a little too noblebright for my taste. Not so this one. The decay, the corruption, the hopelessness and how ironically it's those very circumstances that ultimately bring out the best in humanity has always been the core of what sets Warhammer apart from other settings to me. This book encapsulates this better than any I have read in a long time. I can't say much without risking spoilers, but I found it to be inspiring story about making the best of an impossible situation and about how sometimes doing the right thing has to be it's own reward. 10/10
PS: As a native German speaker I greatly appreciated the nuance in the pronunciation of J.S. Bachs last name.

WARNING : May contain spoilers! Read at own risk

    Good conclusion of the storyline.
the story arcs between the pre-rift imperium to the indomitus-era.
Conclusion ,as is often the case, is very 40K!
