    Description

A year has passed since the Dark Wizard Myrin attempted to take control of the Kingdom of Verania. Though the scars of the final battle remain, Veranians have come together in unity in order to rebuild. Good King Anthony sits on the throne once more, with Morgan of Shadows at his side.

However, a king is not immortal. One day, Anthony will step down, paving the way for his son, Grand Prince Justin, to assume the throne. And Justin wants anything but.

Unfortunately for him, he finds himself with bigger things to worry about than just becoming the ruler of a country. At the celebration of the might of Verania and its people, a delegation arrives, led by a man who calls himself a magician. This man represents the king of Yennbridge, who has come to claim what was promised to him years before: the hand of the firstborn son of the king and queen of Verania. With his ridiculous friends at his side—Sam, Ryan, Kevin, Gary, and Tiggy—Justin sets out to make the visiting king’s life a living hell. Which, of course, backfires spectacularly, and when the dust settles, Justin finds his friends changed in ways he can’t expect, leaving him standing alone.

Except he’s not as alone as he thinks, given the king of Yennbridge will do anything to prove he’s worthy of the frozen heart of the Ice Prince.

Prince Justin has finally met his match. Let the games begin.

    Funny but Sam-centric

The long awaited book #5 is finally upon us!!! I've spent so much time imagining Justin's story. So have many others. And it looks like TJ Klune combed through the most popular fanfics on AO3 and picked out fan favorites. This means we get delighted by the return of some old goodies like truth corn, the cheesy dicks song, Tiggy's brooms, and crazy fangirls/boys like Tina De Silva. On the negative side I feel like we didn't get as much Justin. I was so looking forward to the prince's story. To get to know him better and have him go on his own journey. This felt more like he got dragged along another one of Sam's adventures. Even his reactions felt like a watered down Sam. I didn't get that Justin vibe I was looking for. Which is why I'm not scoring this a perfect 5 star read. But it's still a funny book full of magic, shenanigans and sex puns. And Michael Lesley narrated! So still an awesome read/listen.

    4 Stars 🌟

This has been a crazy week. I was VERY invested in another Epic Fantasy Saga Trilogy (2200 pages worth) and when I finished that, I wanted something lighter than what I had been reading. This, was a complete 180, and it was perfect.

I'm not going to go into too much other than to say that this isn't a stand alone. If you have not read any books in this series, stop now and start with Book 1. It will not be completely confusing if you don't, but you won't really GET so many things. Half of what makes TJ Klune so endearing - besides his incredibly dry humor and emotionally invested characters - are the Inside Jokes (It's Capitalized...so that means it's true...) and there are a MILLION inside jokes. You do not want to have them all fly over your head...trust me.

Did I like this book as much as the previous 4 books? No - not really. It wasn't that it was bad, there just didn't seem to be the level of investment in the situation that this book revolves around. Sam has fought the big battle and won, a year has gone by since that happened and we then get to come back and visit the gang. The city of Lockes is rebuilding, people are trying to move on from the events that occurred (in the previous 4 books) and all of a sudden there is a King who arrives to say he has been promised to Prince Justin. Or, I guess a better way to say it would be that Prince Justin has been promised to him.

Craziness ensues - and boy, do we hit an extreme level of zaniness (this might be a record level). There is the requisite evil monologuing, kidnapping and magic. All in all - it's fun, light hearted and full of immature humor. What more could you ask for?

    Yea No

I couldn't finish it. I love Micheal Lesley as a narrator but the voices sound off. That was the 1st thing I noticed, but I could over look that and get it the benefit of doubt. I got roughly 6 hours in and decided to get a refund and delete the book. I'm glad I did I looked up how the story progresses and if this is Klunes send off book he should have just stopped after the last one.

    Solid Klune book but....

Where was the adventure? Verania books was all exploration, the adventure this book was more like a soap opera romance episode.... like 2 chapters of excitement at the end with a bunch of fluff and parenting throughout. This could of been a stand alone fun book. but the other books in the series had a great story full of lots of things, while this book went nowhere, why not go to yennbridge? why not awkwardly have the two fall in love while on adventure.
children....no exploring... no great threat.... this really didnt fit in with the verania books I feel this book was made in a hurry with no real substance towards previous versions, just soap opera it up with forced children and a sash and a fast forward timeline was kinda....meh.

    Monologue

This series and this book in-particular, is one long monologue by the author. The basis of the stories is the good one but gees it goes on and on and on. Yikes!

    Literally the best!

The narrator is brilliant, bringing every scene to life. The story is laugh out loud hilarious at points while being genuinely moving as well. I was so sorry to reach the end of this book and the series. I already want to start it all over!

    People that no I'm Insane

The amount of laugh-out-loud hysteria in this book had many fellow travelers looking at me strangely!😂 I'm not happy to say goodbye to these characters. I'll be rereading every book again and again.

The Damning Stone (Tales from Verania, Book 5)

This is my favorite book series that I've listened to so far. I laugh so hard listening even during the fighting scenes for the comments that the characters say to one another are hilarious.
Overall this was an amazing series to read or listen to.

    Still the best!

If I need something to cheer me up, I listen to the Verania series by TJ Klune, performed by Michael Lesley (a perfect combination). I listened for about the fifth time now, I admit.
Even though I know and love most of the other books by TJ, the Verania series still is my favorite. And now here is another one! I am so happy and excited!

    Lmao it continous

Do you know the book or film series where they should have made a good endig and leave it that way insted of going on? Well thats NOT the case here!!!
I loved the change from Sam to justin. The story as always colorful, lovely, funny and filled with so much live its crazy how TJ Klune manages to build those stories on and on without losing the ability to show us new storylines. As it seems we are not at the end of the book series and I'm looking forward to the next one♡♡
Also big thank you to Lesley, you bring live to this world and all its caracters.
