Robert Stanek wrote The Bugville Critters books as bedtime stories for his children. His children enjoyed the stories so much that they urged him to bring them to life for other children to enjoy.

In the first, Lass Ladybug is having trouble at school. She sometimes feels that she's not as smart as the other bugs, until her mom and dad talk to her about how bugs are all different.

In the second, bad behavior gets the best of the Bugville Critters. They forget their manners, do things they shouldn't, and get into trouble. It is up to a most unlikely bug to show them the right way to behave.

In the third, Lass Ladybug has to stay after school, but she doesn't want to. She'd rather go outside and play with her friends. She is surprised when she has fun and makes a new best friend.

In the fourth, Lass Ladybug has a bad day. Her friends don't want to play with her, and she feels so sad and lonely. Things get even worse when she encounters a stranger. But her bad day does have a bright spot - you'll see.
