Mabel is a children’s author and has lived a reclusive life since the death of her husband, distancing herself from her estranged daughter and granddaughter. While preparing for a quiet Christmas alone, she hears a knock on her door and discovers a family seeking shelter after a car accident in the storm. Alongside them are Izzy and Jason, two colleagues from a staging company who have been working on a property nearby.

Everyone is stranded, and so Mabel has no choice but to invite them into her home and join her for Christmas. As this group of almost-strangers begins to form bonds of friendship, can they learn to confront their pasts and embrace the magic of the season so that they can have the best Christmas ever?
