Description
In Geneva, American lawyer Joel Converse meets a man he hasn’t seen in twenty years, a covert operative who dies violently at his feet, whispering words that hand Converse a staggering legacy of death: “The generals . . . they’re back . . . Aquitaine!” Suddenly Converse is running for his life, alone with the world’s most shattering secret. Pursued by anonymous executioners to the dark corners of Europe, he is forced to play a game of survival by blood rules he thought he’d long left behind. One by one, he traces each thread of a lethal progression to the heart of every major government, a network of coordinated global violence that no one believes possible—no one but Converse and the woman he once loved and lost, the only two people on earth who can wrest the world from the iron grasp of Aquitaine.

Flat naration
Qu'est-ce que vous n'avez pas aimé dans la performance de Rob Shapiro ?
Clear but flat presentation with no inflection for each character hence difficult to follow conversations. Not easy listening particularly in an action novel. Returned.

Dry Dogfood
I have always liked Ludlum books but this was too much. I knew it was a long read but didn't expect a book that was mostly filler, just like a cheap dry dogfood. I don't read abridged books but this one really needs to edit out about 40%. They can do that and not lose any of the story,, storyline, or verbal images. Rob Shapario did a decent job with what he had to work with. He must have been really exhausted by the time he finished trying to make this an exciting story. The core story was good but it was very difficult to stay with it all the way to the end.

It won't let you down.
Like most of Ludlams books, this is hard to put down. Most of the writers that tried to copy his ideas just can't hold water.

Shot off the dogs head.
What disappointed you about The Aquitaine Progression?
Too much reference to animal suffering, then in the 2nd part of the book the dogs head was shot off.
What could Robert Ludlum have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?
Stop with the animal killing.
How did the narrator detract from the book?
Too many of the characters sounded the same. It was difficult to follow.
Any additional comments?
Does anyone out there write a descent crime novel WITHOUT animal suffering and killing? I keep returning these books and I've requested that Audible rate their books so that people like me don't repeatedly purchase and return this garbage. I absolutely hate it. Is anyone listening? It is NOT necessary to include animal killing and suffering when it has nothing to do with the story. Why can't there be a rating system to prevent this? How many times do I have to say, I HATE THIS!

Story not up to usual Ludlum standards
The story lacked much of the suspense and clarity I have grown to love in Ludlum books. I strayed from my plan to purchase first the books that I have loved and reread in the past. This was my first download of new material. Probably was not my best choice. The narration was mostly fine, but used an automaton-like delivery for one of the characters that I found difficult to listen to after first few lines.

Good story, but is a little long
The story was great but it is repetitive of detail, and a lot of characters. But the ending was pretty good, and the story was very imaginative.

Good story, excellent speaker but the German:-(
The story feels almost like a history thriller. It has a good pace, the locations are well researched...the only drawback is the mismatched German pronunciation and the ludicrous intonation of German...In this particular story a real problem as the story pivots on German locations, speakers and "mentality"
This little problem could have been fixed with a native speaker as consultant for the otherwise excellent audio book speaker.
Good to very good reading anyway!
