À propos de ce contenu audio

The Adirondack foothills, which rise north of the Mohawk Valley, have charmed natives and visitors for a century and a half with the beauty of their rolling farms, rushing trout streams, sparkling lakes and tidy villages, but little has been written about the people who have lived and died in this rugged hill country.

Tales from the Adirondack Foothills, in a series of related stories, attempts to explain in a modest way how the foothills evolved form a wilderness inhabited only by wandering Indians to the present prosperous area of dairy farms, busy villages and excellent schools.

Here are tales of Indians and pioneers, stories about the religious Welsh settlers, and anecdotes about prominent people who once lived in the foothills. Contributions of the inhabitants to wars and industry are touched upon, and several stories show how the people have found pleasure in entertainment. Foothills characters are described and one section is devoted to the North Woods.

Tales from the Adirondack Foothills is a book which will be enjoyed by native and visitor alike, for it paints an accurate portrait of the foothills and the people who have walked through them for over a century and a half.
