Making meaningful connections with other humans is one of the great joys in life. We may form lifelong personal or professional friendships, we may connect with someone with shared experience through a season of our lives or we may just have a great conversation. This is relationship building which in business circles we refer to as “networking”. Along the way networking became less about forming human connections and transitioned, at least in business to become transactional and centered around how we can extract value from others to benefit ourselves.
In this book I remind us that we’ve been forming relationships since we were children. We’re good at it. We just need to let go of today’s short term mindset around networking to engage in broad relationship building. Let’s get back to finding ways to help others solve their problems while we also organically find our own solutions, hacks, ideas and sometimes we also secure a new client or land a new job.
Release the tedium, cynicism and anxiety many associate with modern day networking and rekindle our joy for making meaningful human connections.
