À propos de ce contenu audio

"Jacqueline Carey's writing flows so beautifully that her stories beg to be experienced on audio...Listeners looking for something different will appreciate this unconventional stand-alone." (AudioFile Magazine)

Jacqueline Carey is back with an amazing adventure not seen since her New York Times best-selling Kushiel's Legacy series. Lush and sensual, Starless introduces listeners to an epic world where exiled gods live among humans, and a hero whose journey will resonate long after the last chapter concludes.

I was nine years old the first time I tried to kill a man....

Destined from birth to serve as protector of the princess Zariya, Khai is trained in the arts of killing and stealth by a warrior sect in the deep desert; yet there is one profound truth that has been withheld from him. In the court of the Sun-Blessed, Khai must learn to navigate deadly intrigue and his own conflicted identity…but in the far reaches of the western seas, the dark god Miasmus is rising, intent on nothing less than wholesale destruction. If Khai is to keep his soul's twin, Zariya, alive, their only hope lies with an unlikely crew of prophecy-seekers on a journey that will take them farther beneath the starless skies than anyone can imagine.

Starless is probably one of my favorite books of all time. It's gripping, unpredictable and fascinating. With themes of love, identity, justice, growth and trust, it still never forces its lessons, and walks with the reader to the end of the world.

The prose is lights, with a lot of themes, leitmotifs and repeated structures. While it could be annoying in a lesser prose, here it binds the structure together, and helps keep track of the very long yet satisfying story.

But what I love the most about this audiobook is easily the performance. Caitlin Davis' voice is perfect, expressing in equal strength the strong and desert-hardened voice of Khai, the soft-spoken yet endearing voice of Zariya, and the hundreds of major and minor voices, male, female, or neither, or both.

This amazing piece of art left me warm and calm, with an odd sense of completion that is hard to find in another book. I suggest it especially to any fan of Brandon Sanderson, Tolkien, and even Rowling.

A great epic of fate, world-building, and devotion
