    Description

In the Shadow of the Moon

When Laura Truitt first sees the dilapidated plantation house, she's overcome by a sense of familiarity. Inside, the owner claims to have been waiting for years and offers an old photograph of a woman with Laura's face. Soon afterward, when a lunar eclipse inexplicably thrusts Laura back in time to Civil War Georgia, she finds herself fighting not just for her heart but for her very survival.

    Whispers of Goodbye

Alone and with nothing left to fear, Catherine deClaire Reed answers her sister's desperate plea and travels to the cold comfort of her home in Reconstruction Louisiana. But Elizabeth is nowhere to be found. No one - including her husband - has seen her for days. Now Catherine must search for her sister in a place where secrets wait behind every closed door.

I loved these stories! They really held my attention, and zi found myself talking to the characters.

I enjoyed these books immensely and have bought all of Karen White's audible books. But I didn't care for the performer's/reader's voice inflection and emphasis at ALL during the second book. I am a student of English and literature and strongly dislike misuse of emphasis and pronunciation when it is read. I found myself correcting the wrong pronunciation out loud every time I heard it. The 3 stars were actually 5 for the first book's performer and no stars at all for the second performer. I found her interpretation very distracting.

    not very entertaining.

I bought this book as a two-pack. The first one spinning the moon was okay. Very much like Outlander, just a different era. But enjoyable to listen to. Good character development. the second book in the two-pack was absolutely painful. the storyline was drab and boring the characters were very annoying and the narration was bad. I really had to force myself to finish this, holding onto hope the whole time that the ending would make my time spent listening worth it. no such luck.

VERY TOP OF MY "FAVORITE AUTHOR LIST"!!!!!

Karen White has absolutely moved to the top of my Favorite Author List! I haven't listened to one yet that I haven't been totally thrilled with. This book in particular is such a bargain for the credit. It is 2 complete books for one credit. If I didn't misunderstand what was said in the beginning, this book was her first two books published. They are truly fantastic books. The narrators are easy listening and definitely not distracting with their individual voices. With the hundreds of books in my library, I want another Karen White novel! Gezzz, that just means I have to buy more credits!

Don't let this one slip by you!! :)

    Kept Me Interested

    Any additional comments?

This is actually two books in one, and I did enjoy them both. The first involves a story with a time travel twist that I liked. The second was a little darker and did keep me wanting to find out what happened, but sometimes feeling a little anxious. It was certainly worth the credit but not without a few minor lines repeated a little to often (a pet peeve of mine).

First book great , 2nd contrived and drawn

I like these, upgraded first books from the author. I liked the first book better than the 2nd. The 2nd had some strengths that got lost in the prolonged drama of the story. The heroine in the 2nd was slow emotionally and intellectually to the point of annoyance. She created much of the drama in her life because of it. Sad too as story had great potential. These together are worth a credit.

    Well . . .

It's important to say I love Karen White. So it pains me to write a review that isn't great. And I know these were her first works so understandable. The first book was ok. Susan Bennett is such an amazing narrator she can cover any writing flaws. But the second book was just terrible. It was a bad romance novel with ridiculous characters that was trying to be a mystery. And Pilar Witherspoon was terrible along with the book. I finished it but only sort of. I skipped over large segments because it was just painful. If you buy it I would plan to just listen to the first book and don't bother with the second.

    Took A Left Turn

This is not even in the same class of work as 'Sound of Glass", A Long Time Gone", or "Flight Patterns". In those books the pharsing and word usage is more mature than here. The story line, the characters, and the thought process used to tell those stories have the the sound of a more seasoned writer. By force of will, I made it though the first book. Having nothing else to read, I stumbled on until I just couldnt take the absurdity of it all any longer. I felt like I had tumbled down the 'rabbit hole' into the land of a Sci-Fi Bodice Ripper. When I was so much younger, the 'wolf and the dove' kind of drivel held my attention at this point in my life I need a story with meat to chew and what I got here was nothing but bones.
In the prolog the author tells us this is some of her first works, but that she reworked, rewrote and cleaned it up.... Really???

Clever Writing - Great - Unique Story

I really enjoyed this book. After a hour on, I start to be hesitant. I'm so glad I continued! The Author was so clever in for seeing where this story was going. I loved every character. Easy to follow. Different kind of story line for me, but I really like the way Karen White pulls a story together, and she did another greT job with this book.

    To Many Adjectives!

Would you try another book from Karen White and/or Susan Bennett and Pilar Witherspoon ?

The first book was good but half way through the second book, I was cringing because every other word had a "flowery" adjective - I believe this was one of author's first books because I have enjoyed several of her new releases.
