As a young Christian man, Matthew Vines harbored the same basic hopes of most young people: to someday share his life with someone, to build a family of his own, to give and receive love. But when he realized he was gay, those hopes were called into question. The Bible, he’d been taught, condemned gay relationships. Feeling the tension between his understanding of the Bible and the reality of his same-sex orientation, Vines devoted years of intensive research into what the Bible says about homosexuality.

Histoire
It's the hot topic of the moment. Christians, the church, and the Bible seem to be out of step with modern attitudes towards homosexuality. And there is growing hostility towards those who hold a different view. So is God homophobic? And what do we say, and how do we relate to to both Christians and non-Christians who experience same-sex attraction. In this short, simple book, Sam Allberry wants to help confused Christians understand what God has said about these questions in the scriptures, and offers a positive and liberating way forward through the debate.

Histoire
In this book, award-winning author James K. A. Smith shows that who and what we worship fundamentally shape our hearts. And while we desire to shape culture, we are not often aware of how culture shapes us. We might not realize the ways our hearts are being taught to love rival gods instead of the One for whom we were made. Smith helps listeners recognize the formative power of culture and the transformative possibilities of Christian practices.

Description
Let's make a deal, you and me. Let's make promises to each other. I promise to tell you my story. The whole story. I'll tell you about a boy in love with Jesus, who, at the fateful onset of puberty, realized his sexual attractions were persistently and exclusively for other guys. I'll tell you how I lay on my bed in the middle of the night and whispered to myself the words I've whispered 1000 times since: "I'm gay." I'll show you the world through my eyes.
I'll tell you what it's like to belong nowhere. To know that much of my Christian family will forever consider me unnatural, dangerous, because of something that feels as involuntary as my eye color. And to know that much of the LGBTQ community that shares my experience as a sexual minority will disagree with the way I've chosen to interpret the call of Jesus, believing I've bought into a tragic, archaic ritual of self-hatred.
But I promise my story won't all be sadness and loneliness and struggle. I'll tell you good things, too, hopeful things, funny things, like the time I accidentally came out to my best friend during his bachelor party. I'll tell you what it felt like the first time someone looked me in the eyes and said, "You are not a mistake." I'll tell you that joy and sorrow are not opposites, that my life has never been more beautiful than when it was most brokenhearted.
If you'll listen, I promise I'll tell you everything, and you can decide for yourself what you want to believe about me.

To Understand - I’m grateful for this book
When I was 25 I found out a friend was gay. I peppered her with questions. She had been attracted to females and not males from her earliest memories, and she wasn’t happy about it. At all. The author approaches his sexuality the way I imagine I would if I had been born gay. This book is most appropriate for readers who are Christ-followers. Non-believers may judge the author since his reckoning of his sexual life clashes with mainstream culture. I would remind them to practice the tolerance they tend to preach.

A very necessary book
I love the author of this book. His truth and great love of Christ I hope will lift many. The beauty of his spirit and the connection he has with the Holy Spirit, our Comforter and intercessor, is inspiring. He shows the reality that all our living is really our out reach for our Father in Heaven and His son who loves each of us unconditionally. Thank you for setting your heart to words for so many of us that need to hear them in so many ways.

Not Terrible
If was nice to hear the authors perspective as a gay Christian growing up in the evangelical church. I do however have a more progressive view about homosexuality and the church then even he does, which surprised me. Worth the read to help move the conversation forward.

Bearing Your Cross
The story of Jesus Christ is one of sacrifice. The question posed to us in the gospel is: what can you sacrifice for Christ? Are you willing to sacrifice everything you desire to fulfill his desires for you? Beautiful story that although many will not understand, God will understand and reward and that is all that matters.

Beautiful!
This book was a real gift to all those who read it and are looking for genuine reflections and thoughts on the complexities of faith and sexual identity. The recording was very pleasant and excellently done. I’d recommend this to anyone who has found themselves in a struggle about their faith and sexual identity. The author is honest, compassionate and able to present his personal story and insights of his own journey while also providing a framework for those walking in similar paths full of grace and hope wherever they are. It is also helpful for those who don’t struggle with sexual identity. I found several sections of the author’s insights and perspectives to bring me into the beautiful truths about God’s goodness and mysteries again towards humanity.

A new perspective!
I loved this book! There were several times that I wanted to grab hold of the author and hug him with love through out his journey. I am forever grateful to him for sharing his story. I look forward to meeting him in person one day and telling him so. In this life or in our perfected lives to come.
