Description

Ryan's relationship is already on the brink when a woman goes missing in the small town of Bakerstand. With the whole town on high alert, he refuses to let this dead city kill what's left of his and Zoey's relationship. But, a house in the woods may hold a deadlier fate than the town ever could.

Great Short with an unexpected Twist

If you could sum up Sin in three words, what would they be?

Don't go camping

What other book might you compare Sin to and why?

I'm going to ignore this question. I really enjoyed this short story. Moving along I thought I knew what was coming up and was pleasantly surprised how things turned out. I really would like to see more to come of Ryan and Zoey.

Have you listened to any of Joe Hempel’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Yes, compared the same. Joe does a great job narrating.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

It was short so I did; however, it was fast paced enough that I wanted to know what was coming next and needed to keep listening.

Scary Suspenseful Horror Novella!!

This is a really great horror novella from Patrick Reuman. Two teenagers planning a Friday night camping trip into the woods. What could go wrong? Have they never watched a horror movie? There is a classmates mother who is missing as well in the small town they live in adding to the drama and tension. The weather turns bad and low and behold there is a isolated house in the woods. Nothing bad ever happens to kids in houses in the woods; well maybe Hansel and Gretel, but any way it is a really well written story with many twists and turns. I loved it.

The narration is delivered by the amazing Joe Hempel. He delivers another outstanding performance in this fun story. This is a story that will stick with you and his voice will be the one that haunts you when you think of this story.

SO SCARY ON SO MANY LEVELS!

Any additional comments?

Rarely am I surprised when reading a horror book; they usually seem to follow the same trajectories, with similar characters and predictable endings. However, "Sin" was delightfully different. Not only did this story have a trajectory I haven't seen before (boyfriend and girlfriend decide to go camping nearby the boyfriend's house) but it had twists that I absolutely could not anticipate. The book is so good, in fact, that if I reveal any more I run the risk of spoiling things for new readers. So I will simply say: "Sin" is an excellent, short horror book that I would *highly* recommend to anyone who enjoys horror/suspense/mystery/thrillers. Joe Hempel gives a fantastic performance, as always. 10/10!

Unexpected twists

A strange but entertaining short story of murder and disturbed minds. The narration in the audiobook makes the twists and surprises in the story come alive. It's seems to be a twisted case of bad guys vs bad guys and it's a toss up as to who will "win" in the end.

Sinfully Good!

You might be reluctant to buy an audiobook that slides in at just under 2 hours. It’s understandable because so many short audiobooks never feel like a complete story. This audiobook is the exception to the rule!

Sin feels less like an audiobook and more like a movie, a really good horror movie. The beginning gives you an idea of where the story is heading, but don’t make the mistake of thinking you know how this story will end. Joe Hempel narrates and does a fantastic job on this fully voiced production. Every audiobook that I have heard with Joe narrating has been a 5 star listen and the streak continues with Sin.

Needs More

Clearly, with a short story there will be limited story development. Understanding that, there is plenty of early development. The problem is that the ending is rushed. So much happens throughout the story, some of which was inconsequential, that to have it end so abruptly is disappointing. The story overall is pretty good, with some ironic elements that make it fun. The ending, which isn’t bad, just underdeveloped, costs the story a full star. Joe Hempel is a very good narrator. He just seemed a bit limited with this story. I have enjoyed his work in the past, but he just seemed to have less to work with and wasn’t able to showcase his talent as much.
