Description

Branch McGuire: Hot, arrogant, and life of the party...

I easily transitioned from high school jock to egotistical playboy. And when the chance to leave Blue Ridge presented itself, I signed on, dropping everything without so much as a second thought. Settling into the lifestyle of a professional athlete, I indulge in the pleasures of my high-profile status. The only nod to my roots is my annual trip for a celebrity spotlight fix, but when I receive a call that forces an impromptu return home, everything I left behind comes barreling to the surface.

Ragan Prescott: Determined, resilient, and born to a drug addict...

From the outside, my life was that of a free-spirited girl who grew up in a normal household, yet nothing normal happened behind the doors of a house I came to hate. Breaking away from the family dysfunction, I embark upon the life I’ve always wanted in Blue Ridge. But when I fall prey to the charms of a silver-tongued devil, it becomes a life I have to escape. Will a small town hero be my only chance at survival? Will my broken soul mend his? Can our Shattered Beginnings become the fragile pieces from which love is made?

This is book one of the No Longer Broken duet.

Cannot get any better than this!!!!!

Just when I thought I couldn’t love a book more than I already do, it comes to life in audio and I am falling in love all over again!!!! My heart is full listening to the wonderful narration of a story that has touched me in so many ways. Branch and Ragan truly have shattered Beginnings in life and you feel they may never be able to put the pieces back together but they do and in doing so they find each other. Together they grow and learn, they lend each other an ear to listen and they push each other’s boundaries beyond any they have ever known. This story, these characters and this incredible amazing author Lilly Wilde truly gave me a book that I will forever hold dear. Hearing this story come to life by Melissa Moran and Aaron Shedlock really is inspiring. Their many different character voices and their emotion in the words they say is absolutely brilliant. I would definitely say it’s one of the best audiobooks I have ever listened to and to know that they are already working in the second book makes me the happiest person in the world right now.

The NFL star & the single mom

Branch, Branch...’the p*$$* whisperer’...I keep vacillating between loving him and hating him! Local boy becomes an NFL superstar and somewhat of a douche...except when dealing with his mom, who battles with mental illness, and little brother. He is still trying to overcome his childhood demons...when he meets Reagan.
Diner waitress, Reagan Prescott, has more emotional baggage than can fit a 4-piece luggage set! Having survived a horrible, abusive stepmother, then an abusive boyfriend, now a single mom Reagan, has returned home to try and make a life for herself and her daughter. Her initial encounters with Branch at the diner are snarky and rude. However, the longer that Branch remains in town, the more intrigued he is with Reagan...and her little girl. But it’s not all roses for this pair...yet...we have to wait for the continuation of their story in book 2.
I received a complimentary copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

SORRY, IT’S A NO FROM ME

I’m really really sorry.. and believe me I tried to like this listen, but it was SO freakin slow!! I can take a romance that’s fast and I can take one that’s a slow-burn.. however, this romance wasn’t just slow.. it was absolutely non-existent. The hero and heroine didn’t meet til around halfway through book 1.. and even then, they didn’t like each other, sniped, bitched and held animosity for the other ALL the way through the first book. There was a lot of heartbreaking backstory in chapters looking back.. and I get that these two damaged people’s stories had to be told, but it didn’t make for a pleasant escape from reality.

They both had their issues and I understood the whys, but the hero didn’t just have walls around his heart, he had a crocodile infested moat, a broken drawbridge, an armed guard of drooling cannibals and a canon loaded with heartless words aimed at any unsuspecting female looking for more than a one and done emotionless screw. He was the ultimate unapologetic player, he didn’t let emotions in while having sex and, when he held a woman’s head down who hadn’t wanted to swallow, I gave up on his redemption (.. and he actually did this twice).

I had already purchased book 2 with book 1 because of the 5 star reviews, but for me, sadly it wasn’t any better than 1 and, somewhere in amongst their moody angsty interactions, I lost interest and hope. Because I didn’t want to hear chapters of him with other women, interactions with other women in front of the heroine.. and even one where she walks in on him with a woman on her knees in between his just hours after he’d had mind-blowing sex with the heroine for the first time. They eventually called a truce and became tentative friends.. but the main focus was on family secrets and dynamics, their pasts and their emotional baggage. So, there was no romance, no sizzling chemistry, no toe-curling feels, no edge-of-yr-seat anticipation, no sweetly spoken sentiments.. and there wasn’t a glimpse of a HEA until the abruptly ending final chapter.

Worth a credit? Errrmmm, well for me, I think you’ve already guessed that it’s a no.. and I would’ve stopped it earlier on but the dual POV narration was good.. and I do try to finish a story, I do try to see the bigger picture and I do try to get emotionally invested in the character’s lives. And yes, I did finish it and yes, I did see the bigger picture.. but sadly I stopped trying to connect with the characters the longer the angst between them went on. I know I’m in the minority and that’s okay - this is only my opinion.. but maybe it’ll be your next 5 star listen.

Please hear me out

I enjoyed this book however I think it stinks when most authors write a short 11 hour book and and DO NOT charge for two books. I’ve read 17 hour books that were better than this story and charged only one credit. I think it stinks S.T.I.N.K.S.
With that said I was expecting a stellar story with the reviews everyone gave it. Yes it was an interesting story however stopping it right in the middle of a mind thought I’d rediculous. If it weren’t for the STELLAR narrators this book would have been a return and my money back. Do I think it’s a good story? Yes. Do I think it deserves 2 of my hard paid for credits. Hell no. I will pay the second credit to hear the ending but I must say how long with authors do this to people. I can understand if it’s a spin off story from the same book but come on... when it’s the same book it’s just not right. Who do we as customers need to complain to??? Audible or the author? I believe it’s the author. I read this same comment on many books that are 2-3 part books. It’s just plain wrong!!!!!! Does it piss anyone else that this book was destroyed by breaking it into two credits?????

Just Amazing

If I thought reading this book was amazing, listening to it was even better. Hearing duel voices speak out was like getting more into the story of Branch and Ragan. I just fell in love with them even more. This was my first Audible I've listened too. I will need to listen to the next book now. I loved it.

A great book and audio!

With immaculate performances by Melissa Moran and Aaron Shedlock, Shattered Beginnings brings an intense story of vulnerabilty, survival and and the collision of two amazing people, Branch and Ragan. Their stories stem from family issues: dysfunctional, cruel, unsupportive, and the love to found in creating your own, alternative family.
The great thing about this book, for me, was that both leads had such strong, compelling back stories. Their meeting is so far from insta love, and I appreciate this. The story is plot rich and engrossing.
The two narrators are excellent. They bring the main, and other characters richly to life. Their voices compliment the characters and have enabled me to listen without once being jolted out of the narrative. I am looking forward to the conclusion of this story! Excellent!

I want more

I have to say that the male narrator is good. If the second books was on audible I would have bought it. Branch and Reagan come from broken past. You can tell that Reagan and Branch can make each other stronger if they make a team but there is a lot that they have to overcome. I love how complex this story is and different scenarios the author can take the story. This will have you wanting the second book.
