When she discovers that she’s rooming with a high school nemesis, it becomes clear that her hoped for reinvention at college isn’t possible. It’s as if she’s locked in a time loop. In fact-she is! Tension ratchets up when Barrett learns she has a time-traveling companion named Miles Kasher–Okamoto. Lawrence dramatizes their unfriendly meeting and the clash between Miles’s ultra-serious nerdiness and Barrett’s more playful side. Gradually, believably, Lawrence recounts the pair’s growing mutual trust and, finally, a slow-burning attraction that, ironically, may be threatened by being released from their time prison. Rom-com and sci-fi tropes find new definition and fun."
